“Basic rooms but great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

This is in the midst of one of the main streets in the Sultanahmet region. The rooms are small and basic but good value. We had issues with our lights not working and were quickly upgraded to a room with private bathroom and sea views. Food is pretty good but I found the breakfast a bit average.

We spent the first night in a dorm and then moved to private room when one became available. We were fortunate that our room was to the side of the hostel so noise was kept to a minimum. Some friends had a private room directly over the bar area and struggled to get to sleep.... Music was very loud until 3 am most days.
Good value for money in good location. Only critisim is tours suggested by front desk are not the best value at all. Definitely look around, particularly the turkish spa they suggest. It is very poor compared to the other spa's....
Great for socialising and meeting new people. Bar staff very attentive and helpful

Showers were quite dirty though so just be prepared with wet area shoes (flip flops).

I stayed with a friend in the 20 bed dorm for 9 days. The room was not crowded, despite all those beds, and had access to both a small balcony on the front of the building and a the rooftop terrace. The bathrooms were in a constant state of flooding due to maintenance issues in the showers, but that was really my only complaint. The staff was amazing. They really made the experience. Really, the whole street was awesome. Music and laughter and food and shisha. Everyone from all the hostels and restaurants seemed to know each other so they just hung out with each other and with the patrons. It was a great place to just relax and enjoy your vacation. The breakfast was filling (breads and jam, cucumbers, tomatoes, cheese, olives, coffee, and tea). And the hostel's restaurant wasn't half bad either. The lockers were free and were right in front of reception. The location was within walking distance of all the major sites. I loved this hostel and I would highly recommend it.

The only thing that I could say was negative about this hostel were the bathrooms in the room. The caulking around the base of the showers leaked, so, unless you were the first one in after the cleaners, you had to enter a bathroom with standing water.

Aside from that, I loved staying here. The staff were friendly, the room was pleasant, and the location was awesome.

Room Tip: We stayed in the largest multi-bed dorm because of the cheap prices. If you decide to do this, you s...

Overall a nice place to stay, especially location wise, good value for money for people with a tight budget like we had. The staff is not overlly friendly, the breakfast is nice but the beds are very unconfortable (especially in the dorms, the one called HAREM). The bathroom could be more taken care of.

Room Tip: In dorms, check your mattress before selecting the bed! Sometimes the springs can be cheeky...

This is a great place from which to explore Istanbul.... this place has been operating for over 20 years and they know what they are doing... they provide cheap accommodation whilst also providing their guests with good security for gear, good advice for Istanbul and beyond, good food. They are not fools here (they will exchange money at their rate), the free coffee and tea ceases when the bigger spenders may come in for casual drinks and food, but I really rate the Sultan for its calm, well-oiled operation in a truly mad city!!

Room Tip: The 6 bed dorms with ensuite bathrooms are bloody good value.

Nice staying, not noisy, simple, clean enough and good environment. Staff was very helpfull, helped us book hostel in other parts of Turkey. Very nice front bar/restaurante where you can chill and smoke some shisha. Not super great, but nice to chill and stay a couple of days.
