“Go to Jail. Do not pass etc”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

Lovely lovely lovely.
Little piece of peacefulness in a frenzied city.
Building oozes history.
Owners ooze friendliness.
Food oozes on the palate.
Like going to a distant rellies house and they cannot do more for you making their favourite dishes for you to share in their tranquil, quaint home.
They deserve all the postive write ups that they get in abundance.
Top of my list if / when I am back in Istanbul.

“Lovely place, average food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

The actual restaurant is very pretty, it looks like the interior of a house. The gentleman who showed us to our table and served us, although he spoke no English, was very very kind. Unfortunately the food didn't live up to the expectations. I got the famous dumplings, which come with a spoonful of tomato sauce and I didn't like them at all. We also tried the ones with a gorgonzola sauce, but it was more cream. Overall, if you're not fussy about food and like atmosphere, then go there. If you'd like good food, then possibly look somewhere else.

“Good food, interesting experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

This is a slightly unusual place in a building that was once a British prison. The door to the house seemed to be closed but the host let us in and showed us upstairs - we asked to eat outside on the balcony. The restaurant was not very busy and the atmosphere was quiet and peaceful. The food was very good (we had a lamb stew with sour plums, which was delicious). We also had Georgian (as in the former USSR) chocolate cake for dessert, which was also good. The couple who run the place are very charming. The lady played the piano while we ate and we had a very interesting chat with her husband about the history of the building and Istanbul.

“Georgian and Turkish delicate food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

Five years ago, following TimeOut Istanbul's advice, we end up in this pretty old British jail converted into restaurant by the couple who owns the place: a Georgian woman and a Turkish architect. By that time, opera was playing loud by the corridors, the food was excellent (goulash with fine spices was my favourite), good selection of Georgian wines ... This August, five years later, we had half day off in the airport while traveling from Barcelona to Addis Ababa, so we move to the city center and went to the Galata House to check if the place was so amazing as it was the last time. And it is! They keep cooking this same excellent combination of Georgian and Turkish. Same magic touch with fine spices and meat cooked to perfection. Piano music. Good wine. Good price. Highly recommended. Going for DINNER is far better.

“Find it if you can!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

Nice ambiance, low key, freindly, with great food at a reasonable price. Dispite the location, which is very close to the Galata Tower, our taxi diver and the locals we asked did not know how to find it. The owners were very nice and stopped by our table to talk casually. I felt like a guest coming to their house for dinner.
