“GOOD HOTEL”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

I went to Tashkent on a business trip and my review is from the point of view of a business traveller.
Location: The hotel is ideally located in the central district, not very far from the areas of interest. There is a lake on the back side of the hotel which has a very good view from the bar and the facing rooms.

Arrival and Check-in: there are security guards when you enter the hotel campus and they check your car properly. Once you reach the entrance of the hotel, again you have security guards but they are least bothered about checking you. Though they have metal detectors installed at the entrance, but the security guys are least bothered about the bags you are carrying etc. Anyway, once you get in into the lobby, you will see some more security guys observing you very keenly - but very polite and they will aways wish you!!
Check-in staff is very efficient. I would specially like to mention the name of Ms Zamira, who was very helpful in completing the checkin formalities. The manager on duty was also very polite and helpful.
Rooms:I request for a LAKE VIEW room and was allocated one! Quickly I was in my room and was happy to see the ambience of the room. King size bed, one sofa, working table, good bathroom, nice pillows. In short the room was very good. The view of the FROZEN lake was also very good.
Restaurants: they have 2 -3 restaurants. I just had breakfast. The breakfast was good, with good service. They also had the option of "healthy breakfast". Nothing great about the spread and varieties presented. Being a 5 star hotel, I had expected more varieties in the spread. However, the good service compensated for it.

WIFI internet in the lobby areas is free whereas if you use internet in the room, you need to pay for it.

The hotel is good with lots of plus points, however, I would like to highlight few minus points which might help fellow travelers:

1. They do not have any convenience store to buy water, beer, eatables. You need to get them from outside. I had a bad experience here. They provide 2 small water bottles complimentary per day. During my stay, one of the days the housekeeping forgot to keep the complimentary bottles, so I called them to send the bottles. Well, I was told by house keeping, very curtly, that as per their records the bottles we kept in my room and therefore they cannot provide any complementary bottles. However, after insisting, they did deliver two bottles to my room, but with a smug face. Well, this is least expected in InterContinental.
2. Though the reception and restaurant staff are very courteous and nice, room service and laundry staff do not seem to greet you when you call them. Usually it was me who used to greet them with Good morning, good evening, etc. I think that they really need to re-work on their house keeping systems as there were lots of other minor incidents which are not expected in a 5 start hotel.
3. I found the bar and restaurants to be pretty expensive.

All in all, since there is no choice of any other 5 start property, this is the only option. But, I feel that a lot needs to be changed to get value for the money.

if anyone needs any further information, please feel free to write to me.

Room Tip: always ask for LAKE VIEW rooms.

Its was a good hotel to stay. I went there with a group with single room occupancy. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were cordial. I was occupying the room in the 4th floor towards the NBU Building. Its location is good and l like the sites all arround. A summer water park is located beside it. The only thing that I didnt like was that when you are being joined by a 'guest' they charge 40 US Dollor. Thats a bit too expensive. Otherwise I had a good experience with it.

The only "5-star" hotel in Uzbekistan. So you have no options to choose from. It was built in 1997 and obviously needs renovation but... It is like an "alien" from another planet here. It takes 15 min to rich it from the Airport but it is enought to understand what is happening in Uzbekistan now. Poor people...Poor country... So just book it and don't care.

Two nights, room was fine, but room maid took away my ziploc bags and tissue paper that i put between my clothes in my suitcase (stops creasing).

Quite a distance from the airport though.

Room Tip: Don't leave anything on the floor. The room maid will throw it away.

I stayed 2 nights, the first night being a 5am check-in. My room was ready on arrival as I had requested and the service throughout the hotel was exceptional. The room was clean and large, but in need of renovating. The location was suitable for my needs, however there are other hotels better located to the downtown area.

I went there for 1-week business trip. The hotel was huge and magnificent. Stayed in 3rd floor clean deluxe room with awesome view of japanese garden. The buffet breakfast was wide-spread, but it was the same buffet everyday for the whole week. Security was kinda tight since most delegates from countries all around the world prefer to stay there. All staff were friendly and helpful. Great indoor pool accompanied by lovely sauna & steam bath and definitely will be back if the price is Average..

Room Tip: The higher the rooms, the better the view...

Finally got to stay in a hotel that boasted of world class standards and fit the bill almost immediately as you enter the main building!!
The Intercontinental Hotel is the only 5 star property located in Tashkent, which is why it is so much in demand both leisure travellers, as well as the ones on business purposes. The building itself is quite awe inspiring with a separate conference and events area. It is just located on the Amir Timur Road, which is the main arterial road in Tashkent, flanked by the Aqualand on the left and the National Bank of Uzbekistan (NBU) on the right. It has a beautiful Japanese styled garden, which is quite popular among newly wed Uzbek couples, to stroll around there for a photo op.
The ornate marble lobby is quite well spaced out and has a good seating capacity along with an area in the centre with a skylight just above it, giving it natural light. The rooms are of international standards and boast of good amenities and most of them overlook the vast expanse of Tashkent city, a really beautiful and panoramic view!! The main ballroom is quite huge with a capacity of atleast 300 - 400 people at one sitting. It has a bar that doubles up as a restaurant in the lobby, which is the only place where one is allowed to smoke. It is strictly prohibited in the main lobby and the remaining hotel area.
The restaurant which serves the daily breakfast is a treat as here is where you can sample a good and decent worldclass breakfast spread. Ranging from various vegetarian and non vegetarian hot dishes, a live station for eggs of your choice, a variety of cold cuts, fruits, cereals, breads, jams, spreads and juices and you can then pat yourself, for having made a good and smart choice.
The staff are well trained, smart, speak good English and always on their toes to help you out for anything. This is a place which I would strongly recommend to anyone who wishes to visit Tashkent, but live in good and world class accommodation, where money isn't the question.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Tashkent city view.
