While I love keeping it real with cheap and cheerful eats it was nice to sit in a regualar dining place for our brief stop in Colombo. Although the food was good, we felt they really rushed us as I assume they were wanting a second sitting, so instead of a relaxed dinner we were seated 7:40apm, drinks, appetisers, mains and desserts all pushed on us and bill presented at 8:58pm. They were putting food on out table before we were finished first course, so it took away the nice vibe in the cafe area. We started with two cinzano rosso (470r+++) then had tamarind martinis (845+++) which were delicious and recomended. THe Sri Lanakan Fish Head Soup was very tasty, and not at all gory, it's presented very sanistised and just looks like puree red soup (595+++). The most dissapointing dish was the Grilled Prawns (1075+++) which was just 2 very small grilled prawns on leaves, not at all what I expected as Sri Lanka is well known for it's large prawns. The main of Black Pork Curry (1095+++) was to die for and an abosulte must if you like tasty gelatineous meat. So so good. The coconut crusted modha fish was very nice and presented very western style, big plate small fish fillet on a potato puree. Our other must do is the jaggery creme brulee (695+++), so unique and so again delicious. With a few beers dinner came in at 10,560 but with taxes and charges totalled 13,115.52 so don't forget to factor that in. Go here, it's fresh, clean and modern styled food. The courtyard is a little oasis.
