“quite but central”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2014

I only stayed one night but could have stayed more, lake lodge is a good central location for Colombo although a little tricky to find though that could have been down to the taxi driver. Super modern, clean comfortable great food helpful staff thoroughly recommend it if your using Colombo as your starting point for the rest of Sri Lanka.

We only stayed one night before our flight home but wish it had been longer. We had the garden suite which has it own private entrance, little courtyard garden and outdoor sitting area.
The communal roof terrace is very nice and we had a delicious curry there in the evening. Our flight was very early the following morning so we didn't get to experience breakfast although they kindly made us a sandwich to take with us. Only down side was we didn't have hot water - but certainly not the only hotel in Sri Lanka without it !
If we return to Colombo we will be very happy to use lake lodge again

It's a great place in Colombo if you're looking for something that offers excellent value. After an intensive day in Colombo it was great to return to the oasis of Lake Lodge a relax for a few hours. It's situated in a very lush and calm part of Colombo (centrally though). The rooms and lobby are decorated in a very sober and minimalistic way. They serve great food (close to cross kitchen). Order well in time before, since the kitchen needs some time to prepare the meals.

We stayed 2 nights at this cute, hidden, friendly hotel. It looks pretty new and is modern and immaculately clean. The staff are super friendly and very attentive during meal service and when helping with information. They organised drivers for us around the city and found us a driver to take us to Galle on a public holiday for a good price. We ate breakfast both days and a meal one evening. The breakfast was good (try the Sri Lankan breakfasts...I'm not totally convinced about the curry egg but the rotti and string hoppers were good, they also do fruit with toast and a cooked breakfast) and we had one evening meal. I must admit that I am not a fan of curries but the one we had at the hotel restaurant was very good. We had chicken curry but the highlight was all the extra side dishes it comes with. The dahl was delicious and the other dishes really complimented the curry. The staff were always very good with offering us more beers, filling up our glasses and warding off the mozzies with citronella candles.
Cons- as it is in a walled compound there aren't really any views from your room. The hot water wasn't great. Showers were barely warm which wasn't a big issue considering how hot it was when we stayed there.
I would definitely recommend the Lake Lodge!

Room Tip: There are only13 rooms and they all seemed pretty similar...

Located in a quiet side street, five minute tuk tuk ride into the heart of Colombo.
A warm welcome, staff very accomodating. Small hotel with only nine rooms. Room was tastefully decorated and spacious. Bathroom impressive.
Breakfast was very good. Choice between bacon and chicken sausages!
We would definitely stay there again if passing through Colombo.

Situated close to the centre but still in a fairly quiet location. We only stayed here one night and had to get up at 3am to get to the airport, but would have liked to have stayed longer. The bathroom smelled rather musty but otherwise the hotel was very clean and impeccably decorated. The terrace bar was very nice, and the "caipilanka" cocktails (made with the local Arrack) definitely worth sampling. Our room was located right next to the bar and we were worried that it could be nosiy, but it turned out to be very quiet.

Another place I regret having just passed through.
Friendly, helpful staff.
Good food at reasonable prices.
Clean, comfortable rooms.

As the name implies the lake is just around the corner, as is the President's house. We went for a wander a little before dusk and stopped off at the cricket ground to discuss the finer points of the game with the local youth before making a circuit of the lake.
