“Quirky but don't seek this out”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2014

We were wandering around the markets - a really great experience - and we popped into the City Hall as the LP listed this as a 'don't miss' destination. Not one but two men rushed us upstairs to see the dusty wax figures seated around the council chambers, then when we handed the main guy 100lkr, he requested another 100 for his silent mate.

Not really worth it aside from something to do in Colombo.

the place needs a lot of renovations. it has a very antique look into it and the rail museum, the mummy statues you shouldn't miss. it is going to be renovated soon so dont miss the opportunity to see how it is now.

“Very Poorly maintained historic place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014

one time this was an all important building but when time passed this is neglected and abandoned recently this underwent some renovations but still neglected. This is situated in the middle of trading district. It is always crowded with commercial vehicles and too noisy further very dusty too. If you tolerate it is a nice place to see some very ancient and historic value items such as thrones, armoury etc., This also close the central Bus stand and Fort railway station It is at the junction of Main Street.
I think there is an entry fees to foreigners but I am not sure (sorry)

Good for a picture along with this white beautiful building. Looks like a mini white house in Colombo.

“A quirky experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2014

After reading that it was worth a visit I was more than happy when the opportunity presented itself for us to drop in. If you didn't know it was there you would probably pass this magnificent old building without noticing it. Make sure you wander upstairs and get the caretaker to show you around - his English isn't great but he will enthusiastically show you many of the interesting quirky facets of the city's original council chambers - check the windows, you'll not only get a great view but you'll appreciate the ingenuity of their design. As previously indicated entry is free but you can't help but give the caretaker a tip.
Downstairs beneath the building in the open air area is this eclectic collection of municipal objects from mayoral robes to an intricate model of the new town hall to street signs through to a stream powered truck. It's free so there's no need to pay any of the women sweeping or hanging around the displays.
