“Adequate hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

This was a fine hotel for a one-night stay in Ulaanbaatar -- after spending two nights in a yurt and looking forward to the next night on a train to Beijing. Rooms on the upper floors offer a nice view of the city and surroundings, and the wine bar is a pleasant enough place for a drink or dinner.

It has been a LONG time since anything was updated in the B tower. Its a place to shower and sleep and change clothes, and not be dirtier than you started.

This is the preferred hotel by my company, and I fight every time to go somewhere else. I have stayed probably 8 times in the last year out of necessity. If using as a "day room" (in around noon, then waiting for flight out at midnight) its not bad because you spend most of the time away either eating, shopping, or walking. The beds are typical of what I have found at most hotels in UB, and are thin and hard. No points off for that. They do have good hot water and a descent bathroom. The staff is hit or miss on English, especially after about 10pm, but it is managable. They have however lost my reservation twice. To their credit they did check me in each time, and work it out with my company (as they do a lot of business on a regular basis with them) but if traveling for personal business make sure you have a confirmation number, and dont depend on your name. They have wired internet in the rooms, but no wifi. They have wifi in the lobby, but that is quite sporatic. They claim to also have it on several floors, but I could not reach it on either my phone, nor my tablet. Also be advised to use the wired internet, you will have to plug in the power adapter for it, which usually means moving furnature. (or at least did on my first 2 trips when I traveled with a laptop vs a tablet)

Im not giving them a BAD review. It is a place to stay, and could be in much worse places. There are lots of interesting things you can do within walking distance, but its nothing to be excited about. Its a launching pad or a base station, its not the destination.

Room Tip: A tower may be better than B tower. My company has always booked B tower and it could use an upgrad...

I moved in cause all hotels were full. Nothing worked: Internet, hot water, no light.
I complained and they brought me an additional lamp that helped but didn't really solve the problem. - My room was just dark. A part from that quite weard ambiance in the bar Casablanca: completely drunk and loud atmosphere.
On top of that the hotel was just by far too expensive. I had a Business Room but that was just a joke!

Room Tip: go to UB Hotel or anywhere else!!

The only positive to say about zhis hotel is its location, the rooms are old and dirty, the service is just so so, they hardly speak english, the price is far beyond what you usually get for the money. I suggest other hotels in UB. Thats not it.

We stayed here 2 nights. It look like a communist hotel from the 80s. It is compose of 2 towers with a huge space in the middle for the breakfast. The room are a bit outdated but it is ok. We are in Mongolia! The bathroom is clean but the staff does not seams to care really much...

Things are pricey in UB for what you get. I was satisfied with the sundries store and the breakfast buffet, which suits European tastes. The place is grubby, but safe and ultimately comfortable. The young women in the otherwise uninteresting bar provide great service...and I enjoyed rugby on the t.v. The double room held two large men and their luggage comfortably. Keep your expectations in check, and you'll find that you have everything you need. The phone, for example, had its numbers worn off the dialing buttons; however, it DID work! The best feature was the location: I walked everywhere, which was perfect because traffic around UB is a circus with no ringleader.
