Located in the Zaisan district of Ulaanbaatar, one climbs up a gazillion steps to reach the Soviet-gifted monument. Its beautiful mosaic tells the story of Mongolian history, I think. I wish there were some plaques in English to help those of us who lack Mongolian. Even then, information is scarce. It is best to look up the history of Zaisan on the Internet before trekking up there. You will appreciate the experience more. Once up there, you will gasp at the sweeping views of the city. If you are faint-hearted for the climb, take it in small amounts. There are seats along the way. Close your eyes to the senseless trash that lines the steps and the monument, and enjoy the 360 degree view. On your way down, the grilled food at the base isn't that bad either!
