This was such an amazing find. Very cheap at $28 dollars a night per room (we had a large twin, with en suite bedroom and a funny little kitchen). The room was enormous, and had great air conditioning and (amazingly for this part of the world!) a HOT SHOWER!!! Waow!!! :-)

The room and beds were absolutely spotless. Gorgeous wooden floors in our room, and a well lit and very very clean bathroom with lots of loo paper (believe me - you come to develop a toilet paper obsession in Asia). There is also a lovely little pool in the gardens of the hotel - and it is SO peaceful! Just 10-15 minutes walk into the centre of things in Vientiane, and like another reviewer said, you are right on top of a rather impressive temple just across the road - and the sound of the drums is just charming!

Breakfast was great - and only $2 a pop. You could have a plate of fruit or an egg (scrambled or fried), a large piece of french stick, and butter and jam. This came with excellent tea or coffee.

What made it for us though was the waiter that served us breakfast each day. A lovely young chap, with a HUGE love of English football, and in particular Manchester United. We bought him some MU shorts from the market, and he almost cried with gratitude. His English is slightly slow, but word perfect. An absolute gem! We have promised to send him something else to feed his football obsession - but go prepared and take him a little something.... :-D

Kind regards

  • Liked — The service, and the peaceful gardens and small pool.
  • Disliked — We couldn't seem to get a beer here (the mini bar had nothing in it and there was no bar), so make sure you pick some up on the way home if you want a beer!

The garden will draw you in at this beautiful guesthouse. Like much of Laos, Villa Manoly seems lost in a former decade, but that is part of its charm. It is directly behind a small monastery, and you can hear the temple drums early in the morning. You simply have to experience it if you want to have a peaceful vacation in Vientiane. It is tucked away from the main road just enough that you feel safer, and the property has great security. In addition to its own watchman, you'll be looked after by a pair of adorable brown dogs who trot around the garden on lookout. Ask about meals, etc. upon check-in. The staff are very friendly and sweet. The pool is small, but well-maintained and there are plenty of lounge chairs if you want to get some sun. Overall, a great experience. Villa Manoly is definitely somewhere to relax.

  • Liked — Location, relaxing atmosphere, the garden
  • Disliked — Overall, Vientiane is a very dusty place. Can't be helped!
  • Tips/Secrets: — Don't leave your door open; you'll get mosquitoes!

Spent Xmas here, very nice large rooms, a little bit dusty and slightly run down but definitely not dirty, wooden floors and small balcony, large comfortable bed with white clean sheets, small swimming pool in the garden filled with flowers.

A nice 15 minute walk along quiet streets in the shade of big trees get you to the centre where you find the restaurants.

The staff did not inform us that we could have breakfast there, but we enjoyed going into town to one of the many excellent bakeries.

What we enjoyed most was the calm, quiet, relaxed atmosphere, I get relaxed just thinking back to the days spent at the Villa Manoly.

Nice little restaurant nearby (Nana's), on the main road along the Mekhong, very simple and cheap food.

  • Liked — Relaxed, quiet, 100% Lao attitude
  • Disliked — Were not aware until the very end that they provided b/fast (maybe also other food?)
  • Tips/Secrets: — If you like your travelling calm and slow, go to Laos
