“Nice room enjoyed good quality sleep”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

The hotel is close to the Mekong river where the night market is held. Along the main road, there are 3 or 4 Halal food outlets. No problem of halal food for Muslim tourists. Many tourist spots can be reached by walking as the hotel is quite close to them.
The hotel receptionist was friendly. He explained about the area close to the hotel and also on the timing of the complimentary transport from hotel to the airport.
The room was spacious and clean. The double bed/mattress was just right for me .Enjoyed the good quality sleep without disturbance from traffic noise.I liked the easy chair that was provided in the room as it was good for resting and stretching my leg/ feet.Water pressure in the toilet was good.
Many massage outlets close to the hotel.Tried the feet massage at Oasis outlet across the road.No regret and the price was reasonable. To get a 10% discoust here just get a coupon from the hotel reception.

Excellent location, short walk to waterfront, loads of cafes and bars close by.  Lovely large room with parquetry floors.  Queen size bed, nice writing desk and lamp.  Bathroom had a large vanity, shower over the bath.  Balcony overlooking the street and some distant views of the Mekong. Nice LCd TV.  Hotel will arrange transport to airport, for $8US, short ride, less than 15 minutes.  Breakfast was Western which seems very common in Laos, a la carte style.  It included nice bakery products, baguettes and croissants - much more authentic than many other places. The hotel has a lovely bar and sitting area which includes an extremely large LCD TV with lots of additional channels.

I only stayed at the Best Western for one night and kind of as a novelty experience....given the iconic name from the U.S. The staff were super friendly. My bed was comfortable and I loved the bedspread....it's hard to find a balance with places that just give you a sheet and you want the aircon at a certain level. Flat screen TV. U.S. style bathroom with bathtub. The elevator and hallways were oddly different from other guesthouses/hotels in Vientiane, I'm not quite sure how to describe it, not bad. Staff was very friendly and breakfast was included with my room, although I did not take advantage off it. I've got to start doing that! The electricity went out once in the morning while I was in the lobby, but it either came back on or the back-up generator kicked in within 2-3 minutes. The location is great. Several restaurants on that street, but also steps away to all off the places along the riverside. There are both tourist/Western oriented spots and Lao eateries. Also, the night market is very close by. So, easy to get around.

The good - clean, large (but basic) room. Pool (but the size of a large home pool with wooden chairs without cushions and NO shade - which since it was blisteringly hot made it no very useable). Bathroom with leak around base of toilet (small leak), dirt marks in tub.
Lots of restaurants nearby, two minutes to night market (but it is the worst one I've seen in SE asia - a few bits of overpriced goods, almost no food and the reconstructed "riverside" is all concrete and doesn't really allow much of a view of the river - of course none of this is the hotels fault just info for the tourist)

The bad - staff really doesn't speak English but instead of saying "Please repeat" or "I don't understand" they just say yes - which leads to a lot of confusion. For example I turned on the TV and only saw channels in Thai (after only checking a few ) so I asked if there were any english channels "no" so "only Thai/Lao channels?" "yes". Well when I was less tired I tried more channels and there were MANY English channels!

Asked to speak to manager - no manager, no assistant! After a bit "she is out of country".
Pre-arranged pick up at airport didn't happen!

Internet (while free) seems to work only in some locations (not good in my room) and VERY slow. Again staff unable to help ?b/c lack of ability to understand English.

The terrible - asked for bus fare to Udon Thani - was quoted USD$90!!! I said place around the corner quoted equiv of $10 and were they sure this was for bus not taxi - yes they said this was for bus (it is about a 2 hour journey).
No assistance of help with anything a tourist might want to do (I had been promised by manager in a previous email that info would be waiting for me at front desk).

Free breakfast is very limited and not very good (except that basic fresh fruit and noodle soups were good). I would rather pay less and have option to eat elsewhere.

This place is not value for money - had I stayed longer I would have moved to guest house which was 1/4 the price with not much decrease in quality.

THERE IS A MAJOR CONSTRUCTION PROJECT JUST STARTING IN THE LOT ADJACENT (behind) the hotel so I would guess there will be quite of lot of noise for a while. When asked staff what it was - they had no idea what I was talking about even tho I noticed b/c a large tractor had been moved onto the dug up lot.

Room Tip: If you care about noise ask for a room on the side away from the street - but with impending constru...

With a great location and decent facilities, this place is worth the money. I could see five resturant/bars from my balcony, yet it was quiet as a tomb in my room. This place is within walking distance to all the neat little shops, restaurants and 'wats' that you want to see in a day or two. I can only complain that the water wasn't "hot" but "lukewarm". Maybe that was just a temporary fluke. The hotel staff came in and delivered a local fruit basket free of charge as a welcome gift. Breakfast was quite tasty.
You might feel claustrophobic in the single elevator. The bar had a fine selection of boxed wines. The view is not spectacular. If you can live with these little drawbacks, pay the 70-90 USD for a night there!

So it's $70 per night (for a double room), which is fairly mid-upper tier for South-East Asia.
What you're paying for:
- a nice pool
- larger than normal rooms

Why I don't think you're getting great value:
- breakfast finishes at 10am. that's early if you want a lie-in to get over jetlag etc. and after this it is "we will charge you for anything you order". very little leeway given. for $70 they can extend it to 11am at least.
- the staff don't speak english that well. fair enough this is Laos, but even the receptionist speaks very limited english - which makes settling the bill & dealing with problems more stressful than it should be. you need to know that you can communicate with at least 1 person in the hotel well!
- the bathrooms aren't particularly amazing. clean, but that's expected.

Ultimately, I just don't think you're getting *great* value for money. I stayed in a $30 a night place in Hanoi that was alot better than this. In Vientiane there are plenty of $30 a night hotels/guesthouses, that I expect would give you a very similar experience, perhaps without a pool. I guess it depends what you want.
