We had a great stay at the hostel. The staff were very accamodating to our needs. Hot showers, good location with a short walk to the main areas. The free breakfast was excellent, the laundry service was great, and the price was very reasonable ( Specail is Make Vietnam Visa & Book a sleeping bus from Vientiane to Hanoi ). Clean rooms, free internet, I recommend staying here We had a great stay at the hostel. The staff were very accamodating to our needs. Hot showers, good location with a short walk to the main areas. I came there thinking they had single room- because of their misleading website. But there was none... so I stayed for one night in the dorms, that are quite crowded and with an AC working all the time and no windows, so the room was very smelly...
I was siting down stairs in the common area when an American girl was leaving the place and the owner was screaming and cursing here... "F#$%^ Americans" is the nicest thing he said... I don't know what happened between them, but she was very polite and kept calling him "sir" .

Another thing that I really didn't like was that thy were charging more then double the price for there beverages... not very nice when your supposed to be a place for budget travelers...

We booked what we thought was a private room here through HostelBookers but we actually booked a room in it's sister-hostel called Vientiane Guesthouse (which we hated).

The HostelBookers desktop website does state that this but not the mobile website which is what I used. So we turned up at the Backpackers Hostel, the guy took our money and sent someone to show us the way to Vientiane Guesthouse.

There are no private rooms her

A true backpacker hostel with a great atmosphere. The staff are really friendly and full of advice. Looks as though it's going through a refurb, smells a little musty too in the rooms. Rooms can be chilly as a/c and fans on ( shouldn't complain that they work exceptionally well) fantastic showers, only niggle was the musty smell to the place and the mass of cockroaches in the toilets.

We just stayed there for one night and have been concerned about the 16 dorm room but it was great!
Stayed at other dorms with less beds and it was just bad. People cared about not being too loud and not turning on the lights in the middle of the night. It can be chilly because of the ac and all the fans in the room. There are lockers for every bed, the beds are clean and comfy, with own reading lights. Showers and toilets were clean, good location, lots of restaurants close, also travel agents. Would stay there again!
