On this trip I had my elderly parent, sis, cousin with me. The total of 5 persons in 2 Suites with 1 extra bed. We only managed to get 1 Suite Room with Balcony for my parent. We booked for Airport Transfer to hotel and the hotel staff was there to greet us and take us to the hotel in a van. The Airport Transfer for a Group of up to 6 person cost only US$15 which is reasonable.
Upon checked in we were lead to the top floor of the hotel in a lift. The lift was useful for people with mobility problem. The hotel has only 6 floors so not much of a view. The balcony suite overlook the Buddhist college and the street but wanted to gave the best room to my parents and prices was reasonable for a suite room.
Very convenient to most attractions around 20mins walk or a short 5 min tuk tuk ride away.2 mins walk to Vientiane award winning (Miele Guide) Makphet Resturant. Not good if elderly cannot climb onto a tuk tuk or walk, because Taxi is not easily flagged from the street. Better to take down Vientiane Taxi no and called yourself. Taxi Vientiane Group Co on +856-21 4541 68 or +856-20 5820 071.
Hotel reception refused to call Taxi as they said they have hotel car, but the cost of hotel car is US$15-$20 per hour. Short distance to the nearest attraction requires US$8, while a Tuk Tuk cost 10000Kip per head (US$1.25).
We did hire the hotel van for a trip out to Buddha Park and a stopover for lunch at the popular Chinese Restaurant followed by some sight seeing to Pha That Luang, Patuxai & Haw Pha Kaew, There is a fixed charge for Buddha Park around US$80 which allows 4hrs to and fro. Then city tour starts after lunch per hr of US$20.
The Suite room was huge and spacious. Even the toilet size is big; it has a separate huge bathtub by the window and o tn the other side a shower room. Amenities was adequate and good quality like those in 5 stars hotel. Every night when they turn down the bed, a small token of chocolate is given. Not sure if this applies to the cheapest room. I would recommend to pay a bit more US$ to get at least the deluxe room especially if you come from a stronger currency country.
The free breakfast was decent but do not expect a lot of choices like those in the big hotel. They do have different style of cooking eggs and toast, waffle or pancake which you can order as part of the buffet. They have the usual juice, bacon, yogurt and congee with condiments to go with it.
They have a Spa which offer massages and foot reflexology in one end of 2nd floor.Technique was good and the couple room was nicely decorated with shower area.
Only problem I had with them the 2nd time I tried to booked. They were fully booked, no available in house therapist. The reception checked with the spa and she was told they can call for outside therapist for me. I called back after 1/2 hr and reception said they were still looking. The reception lady name Nuang was helpful to check with the spa but the spa kept me waiting. I waited in total for nearly 2 hrs for their response until it was time for dinner.
The prices in hotel are at least 2-3 times outside which I was willing to pay as I did not want to go out as I just came back from a whole day trip of sight seeing. Courtesy the spa should not keep telling me they are still looking for a therapist when they cannot find one after more than 1hr. It look like they did not want their customer to go to outside massage which is available around the corner, same side street as Makpet Restuarant.
Service needs to be improved especially reception when some of the lady was not very helpful. The service at reception is not very consistent depending who is serving at the time you approach them.
Calling for taxi & Restaurant reservation is a norm for most hotel but they refused. I had to physically walked to the Restaurant to make reservation. Luckily most of the restaurant I personally make reservation had staff who could at least speak English. We walked nearly 20 min to KhaoLao Restaurant and 20min back without my elderly parent to make reservation for that night. I did not want to take the risk of not getting a table after my elderly dad walked for dinner.Luckily the Restaurant is able to call a metered taxi for me to get back to hotel after dinner.
The reception gave the excuse that the restaurant do take reservation from the hotel. Even the nearby Makphet restaurant they refused to call and I had to walk there. They could improve their service if they could get one of their staff to walk over and make reservation since it is only like 2 mins walk, especially this popular restaurant need to be booked in advance.
Alms Giving Service
For a small fee of US$20 per person, they arrange for us to participate in Alms Giving at 5am. They prepare 10 portions of gift, sticky rice and lend us scarf to wear and mat to kneel before the monk. One of the hotel staff was on hand to guide.
Area of Improvement.
I wished they could have increase the no of gift packs to at least the expected biggest group of monk, At least hotel guest can at least fulfilled alms giving for at least one group of monks, Alternative let customer know so that we have an option to top up cash for more gift packs, if we want to gave to at least one group. I felt sorry that we ran out of gift packs and only had sticky rice left for a big group of around 16 monks. Towards the end of line of monks queuing are the youngest which look like around 6 years old. Luckily I have prepare more gift of small money 1000-2000kips (US$0,12 - $0.24) which I can still gave out and not just sticky rice,
Alms Giving is a good Culture Experience and also create good karma for your ancestors by dedicating the good merits to them. Highly Recommended!
We like this boutique hotel with nice room at affordable prices even for Suite room. The location was great as it is nearby to most attractions and along the Mekong river night market. The lady manager was helpful and friendly with suggestions.
I also like Alms Giving Service which they prepare all the gifts, food and necessary thing so that we can take part at 5am next day with a staff to guide us.
Not consistent service at the reception which I find sometime they are only interested in selling their hotel product like hotel car hire and spa and not thinking in term of their hotel guest benefits.
