“One of the best budget accommodation at riverside”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

One of the newest and cleanest 5-storey guesthouse from the owner of Mixay Guesthouse near, at the next street.
Pros: It's new (looks still new at May 2013), well managed and clean. Good option between of mostly old, cramped and sometime partially ruined hotels and gh of riverside of Vientian.
Breakfast is a good option.
Cons: a bit pricy, and often fully booked. You can find cheaper, but not better.
Tooooo much ridiculous "do and dont's" stickers with messages everywhere. :)

Room Tip: Check your rooms before booking. Not all rooms there are the same (some noisy, some without windows...

I had 1 single room with fan. It's clean and nice. The bathroom is also clean and wide. It's quite cheap but an amazing ones. The breakfast is better, the best among other hostels I stayed during my trip to 6 countries in Southeast Asia. But they took some time to reply my email for booking confirmation. Overall, I'd like to stay here again next time.

Booked this one and managed to get a pretty good deal after having looked round about 15 other hotels. It was clean, although there was a smell from the drains. One thing that did ruin the place was the amount of notices warning you about various fines.

Found this place after looking at a couple of others on the same street. I booked for one night, but am still here 4 days later. I have a single room on the 4th floor which is very small, but that is not a problem for me. The mattress is the softest I have encountered in 15 months in Asia - very Western and a nice change.

I share a bathroom - there are three on this floor, with 3 additional basins if you want to brush teeth etc. I've never yet encountered a situation where I cant get a shower. The showers are spotlessly clean, and fine for pressure and heat.

There is building work going on 100 yds up the road - looks like they'll be there for a while, so a room at rear might be better at the moment. I'm at the front and it is a distraction.

I have found the staff to be great - absolutely no problem at all. There are rules and regs posters all over the place, and it is stricly no girls allowed back in your room.

I pay 300 Thai baht per night. There will be cheaper about but I'm happy enough here. Free wi-fi from 9am till 11.30pm, free coffee through the day, and orange (feel guilty taking more than one glass). Food good too.

Very happy to recommend this place.

This is hands down both the worst and most expensive hotel or guest house that we stayed at during our month long journey across Laos. (That said, it is better than most accommodations in Myanmar, but everything is relative) The four star status that this hotel achieved is the most flagrant overrating by TripAdvisor that we have encountered during our nine months of traveling. Perhaps the price (120,000 kip for a double room with A/C), the central location, and lack of traveling elsewhere in Laos, has mislead our fellow travelers and tourists to commit the severe sin of grade inflation.

If you choose to stay at this hotel, realize the following:

1 - Normal requests for amenities will not be honored outside of banking business hours. For example, we made the simple request of an extra blanket, but we were flatly denied because it was too late in the day (we made the request around 10pm).

2 - The staff are militaristic about all the rules. You must pay up front, even before seeing the room. Only after providing photo copies of our passports, signing all sorts of forms, and begging repeatedly to see the room were we allowed upstairs to view the room without payment upfront.

3 - The rooms are small, small, small. So small that the mattress barely fits into the tiny jail cell. Worse yet, construction and street traffic make this the noisiest hotel that we stayed in while in Laos.

4 - The common area is both unwelcoming and swarming with mosquitoes in the evening time.

5 - If any amenities fail to function, they will not be fixed before the next business day. (We have a non-functioning drain and our bathroom is now flooded)

6 - This is NOT related to Mixay Guesthouse!! Mixay Guesthouse is around the corner and full, whereas this hotel is half empty and for a reason.

Room Tip: bring ear plugs

After one night at the Phoungchampa hotel we had a quick scout around and found the Mixay Paradise Guesthouse. Only a 5 minute walk from Phoungchampa but a world of difference. Although still only budget accommodation the room had everything we needed including a TV with some English channels for the first time in weeks. With a good location, good service and only 2/3rds of the price of the Phoungchampa it was a great place to stay. We would recommend the Mixay to other travellers.

I enjoyed my 1 night in Mixay, good clean room, plently of natural light and quiet location.
Its located in the tourist area so there are many choices for food and drinks.
I paid $17 a night which includes an average breakfast.
My room had a bathroom but be aware that some rooms have no bathrooms so you must use the shared bathrooms.
