“Renamed Hotel : A Villa Phasouk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2011

This hotel by the small lane is just around the corner from Nam Phu fountain (under construction) which is considered the centre of the city.

You can walk few steps to the main street and find upscale restaurants, cafes and bars. A few blocks to the left are the backpackers, riverside night market.

The hotel itself is a pleasant local property, the suite room I stay is huge (50+ sqm). The weird layout make some space redundant; toilet by the door but bathroom by the bedroom, separated by a kitchenette and wardrobe area.

The suite room comes with balcony, but there is no much of a view besides the quiet residence area.

Breakfast has limited choice of lukewarm chicken porridge, garden salad, some fruits and made to order eggs and sausage.

Overall a satisfactory hotel given the low rate I paid for.

Room Tip: Please upgrade to suite room as others have claimed cheaper room is small

Hotel has nice rooms. The breakfast is ordinary. The staff try hard but don't speak much English which makes it difficult at times. The hot water ran out several times. Overall the value was average. There's better places but worse in Vientiane. Bonus is that it's pretty much in the heart of the city and is fairly quiet.

A quiet side street behind a beautiful riverside temple usually means a trade off in access and/or price, but the Phasouk Residence delivers the best of all worlds. Friendly staff, sparkling clean rooms, great service, good a/c & a firm bed...all that and you are steps away from the Mekong riverside and all the pubs, cafes, and restaurants of central Vientiane as well as some of the most lovely temples and museums in the city.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2010

I have no idea why this place hasn't been reviewed before as its a real gem in Vientiane. The guest house has a modern, clean look complimented by nice wooden furnishings.

The rooms are spotless and cleaned well everyday, the standards are more of a good 3/4 star hotel rather than a guest house. The bed is wonderfully comfortable - solid and not too soft. You get a kettle with teas and coffees which is a really nice touch. The bathroom is very modern and fully tiled.

The staff are friendly but not obtrusive, however the standard of English is not great, bar one of the managers.

The location of the hotel is right in the middle of the main town centre, near to all the cafes and bars, but because it is situated off the main road in a side street, it is very quiet. The only exception is the barking dog that constantly kept me awake in the neighbouring house. Additionally there was a bit of building works nearby.

There was free wi fi in the rooms, but the connection was a bit slow.

All in all, a nice place. Although a bit over priced for a guest house, I think (after looking at several houses) it far exceeds the standards of the other places in town in the same price bracket.
