“Not too flash”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

The hotel feels a bit old and dark, and communication with the front desk can be a little confusing. We had been booked in with supposedly interconnected "deluxe view" rooms, only to find that there were no such things as interconnected rooms in the hotel and the best they could do was give us rooms which were opposite one another. One of these was a "deluxe" room, i.e. cheaper due to the lack of view, so we ended up having prepaid too much for something that didn't exist! The rooms are big however, and the rooftop restaurant is a nice place to sit and have breakfast or a beer, although the breakfast itself is not anything to write home about! And as others have said - the hotel does feel a bit out of the way as it is a bit of a hike into the town, along a road which is in a fairly major construction phase. It is a dusty road (or, after the water trucks have been by to dampen things down, it is a muddy road)! Other things to know are - no swimming pool, but at USD2 a head the hotel next door will let you use theirs which, when it is hot and dusty and you've reached the end of a long biking holiday, is a godsend. Also, The Spirit House restaurant is just a short stroll away. Great food and cocktails, and good service there.

Room Tip: The view in the deluxe view room was not exactly panaramic. If you are on a budget I'd go for a...

Good hotel located right in front of the Mekong river, walking distance (15 minutes) from the city center.
Unfortunately, the surroundings are nothing special and the road along the river still unpaved.
Our room was huge, furnished with basic wooden furniture; bed was a little bit too hard; bathroom was OK, with a big shower-box. The room is not sound-proof and it can happen to hear other guests talking in the corridor.
Breakfast was good, served in the restaurant located on the top floor, with a nice view on the Mekong.
Free wi-fi all over the hotel and 3 computers available for guests in the lobby.
In general it’s a good hotel, but I would prefer an accommodation closer to the city center.

Generally a very nice stay. I had a very nice junior suite room. The hotel location offers a nice view, but it is about a 15 Min. walk from town. Also at the moment the road in front is still under construction, but that did not disturb me. Service was nice and the breakfast on the top floor is really nice.
But in one case, the hotel really surprised me: do to a flight delay I could not get there on the day I had planned and was stuck in Bangkok. I called them in the morning that I will arrive one day late. Although that was two days to late to cancel according to booking.com, they immediately said they would not charge me for this night.

Breakfast (& dinner) overlook the (voted one of the top views) sunrise/sunset on the Mekong, with nice daily variety (springrolls, etc) beyond porridge & eggs. Spa in the basement was good and convenient. Free hi speed www PCs in lobby better than wifi in distant rooms. Healthclub.
Downsides: Bit of a hike (on currently lampless riverfront road under construction) from town center. Clientele includes tour groups.

We booked for two nights but only stayed for one as we were so disappointed on arrival. It is quite far out of the centre, about ten to fifteen minutes walk. Staff were okay but the rooms need updating. Riverside view from the breakfast area is okay but being totally spoilt by the roadworks directly outside and the building of other hotels nearby. Overpriced for the area even with a riverside view. We moved to chanthapanya hotel nearer the centre. Cheaper and better quality.

Room Tip: Ask free upgrade and you may get some value for money back.

Good average hotel. Bonus: World class view from the restaurant.

The hotel itself, is nice and clean. Don't compare with hotel in Bangkok, but for Vientiane you are looking at good value for money, clean rooms and friendly staff. However, I must highlight an exceptional bonus about this hotel. The roof deck restaurant is wonderful (especially for breakfast and dinner. We also had lunch one done, but the heat gets to you). I would difinately come back if in town again.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the 3, 4. or 5th floor.

We reserved a standard double room and got a room on the first floor in the back of the hotel. The room itself was a bit dark and had no view, but it was quiet and had an additional "living room" space that was very convenient for lounging, lying on the cold tile floor to cool down, and to spread all of our stuff out on the various tables. The room also separated the shower from the toilet/sink which made sharing the room much easier. The morning breakfast served congee (rice porridge) with all the fixings, fried rice, and fried eggs, which made my Asian stomach very happy! Their western breakfast options may be a bit lacking for some and are very simple (toast, fruit, cereal). The hotel itself is on a dirt road and a little far from the center of town. In the heat of the midday, it makes the trek back to the hotel a little more strenuous and adds additional Kips and minutes of bumpy tuk tuk riding. I got two massages at the spa in the garage level of the hotel and was very pleased with both (and they're $5!). I'm not sure if I would recommend this hotel versus another comparably priced one in the center of town, but we didn't have any complaints during our stay. They also have a safe at the front desk and will hold on to passports, cash, etc.
