“Out of the way”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

I had two reservations at the Aroon Residence. Unfortunately they could not accomodate me in the same room, so I had to move. Both rooms were clean and comfortable. The first room (a suite) allowed the AC to run during the day so the room wasn't stifling upon return in the evening. The second would not, and it took a few hours for the room to cool down in the evening.

Breakfast was 'served' in the morning. I was there when it opened up. On the second morning, because a party of about 10 showed up 15 minutes early i was behind them. I waited for 30 minutes before cancelling breakfast and leaving for the airport hungry.

There are many more hotels than this that are much closer to the river where all the restaurants are. It was a long walk from this place. Because of the location I wouldn't stay here again.

Have stayed in this hotel two separate times once in a standard and the other time in superior. Both times it was a nice comfortable stay. Difference between rooms were spaciousness and in superior you get a shower over a bathtub which was a nice option. You also get a mini fridge in both rooms which is handy. Nice hotel in Laos

We were quite suprised when we arrived at the Aroon to be honest. It was kind of weird actually, this very neat, palace looking place in somewhat of a bad area. We only stayed for a stop over but the service was great. Location was ok for what we needed and the rooms were tidy and very quiet with sufficient Wifi. We did not eat here so i cant comment on food but overall this was probably one of the better "value for money" stays on our trip.

I advise heading down to the river at night time, we had a great time down there with the locals. We ended up at a pub at the end of the river having a meal and drinks for amazing value. 4 of us had a meal and 24 long necks between us for a total of $11 AU! we tipped a fair bit to the local girls who provide great service all night and are very friendly and it was the suprise packet of our trip Vientiane.

Vientiane is an odd city in that the accommodation is either overpriced or low value. Aroon Residence delivered good value at a low price in a reasonably central location.

Wifi Internet speed was sufficient for good skype voice calls, just make sure that your room isn't too far from the closest modem when you book. Alternatively, the lobby area is very fast and was pretty quiet.
While most staff can't speak sufficient English, there was almost always someone on hand who could, namely the manager and one of the assistants during my stay.
Loved having the choice between a ceiling fan and aircon.
Although the decor was basic, everything was spotless throughout.
Area was quiet, and a courtesy shuttle bus was arranged for the airport drop-off.
Breakfast was disappointing, but since breakfast was included, for the low price I wasn't expecting much.
Mosquito free.

Suggest hiring a motor bike to get around town. Aroon Residence had hired theirs out before we arrived, so suggest asking for one upon making your reservation, they have only about 3 or 4 motor bikes.

Would gladly return.

Room Tip: Book a motorbike before arriving.

Clean specious room, good location, nice breakfast with fresh coffee. Great service too. Staff are nice and kind. I also like their solid wood furnitures. I and my colleague like all kinds of breakfasts they have to offer. The French breakfast bread is so impressive.

We stayed in the Aroon Residence for one night in one of their superior rooms. The hotel and the room were very clean and quite spacious. Furnishing was okay and we enjoyed having a seperated shower cabin in the bathroom (still open on one end but you don't end up flooding the whole bathroom when taking a shower ;)...). Wifi worked well enough also in our room.
The staff wasn't particularly affectionate but not unfriendly either. We were allowed to wait in their lobby until our pick-up service arrived and they do not mind keeping your baggage on the day you're leaving.

We were disappointed to be told that whilst they offer free pick-up from the airport we would have to pay to be picked up from the bus station which is much closer to the hotel than the airport. Very unflexible ... well, we just walked and it wasn't too far. Also breakfast was well below average: ordered the fruit salat with joghurt and were served a few pieces of apple and papaya with two spoonful of strawberry joghurt on top. Accompanied by two tiny untoasted pieces of toast and orange juice that is so sugary and unnatural that it's difficult to drink before watering it down first.
We would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Superior room was quite spacious and clean.

A very pleasant hotel to stay. The staff and especially Alex Raphone, the GM was very helpful n courteous. The hotel is well positioned, far away from traffic and noise usually associated with night activities (night market, park n pubs/bars) yet close enough to walk to such places and other tourist attractions.

Definitely recommend this hotel for a pleasant stay :)
