“Not the best place to stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

I stayed here for 1 night as it was cheap, however,if you can afford it I would suggest paying a little bit extra and staying somewhere semi decent. The rooms smelled quite badly and the walls were very dirty. The sink in the bathroom drained right onto the floor so it was pretty pointless even having a sink in the bathroom. There were not the bugs in the bed I was expecting so I was happy on that account. There are also a lot of stairs so you don't want to get a room on the 4th floor.

The one positive thing about this place were the staff at the front desk. The fan in our room only reached one of the beds enough to cool it so it was too hot to sleep. The man at the front desk organised another fan for me and set it up in front of my bed so I could sleep. For that reason I have given it two stars as opposed to only the one.

The hotel is fine, buy stay away from the bikes. We had the most frustrating 4 hour trip back from Buddha Park, and the owner was far from helpful. Thank goodness for the kind staff. You've been warned!!

We ended up in the Youth Inn after exhausting all of the other budget options. The room stank, but the bed was free of bugs and whilst not exactly comfortable, was not uncomfortable enough to keep us awake at night. However, we did see a cockroach. We paid 60,000 kip for one night and immediately moved to Mixay Paradise next door for 125,000 including breakfast and a lovely room. I would only advise Youth Inn if you haven't got into any of the many other guesthouses in the area, only the price is appealing.

s/d for 50k Kip in Aug

room: seemed clean, shared bathroom / hot shower (not working) / western toilet, blankets, towel, soap, toilet paper, fan, mosquito net on windows (but really miss one for bed or some repellent), ?optional A/C, free wifi (captive portal with individual login/pass, no key, seems filtered - no ssh, torrent app crashing/blocked & very slow & uptime limit ?12h ... - others outside wifi networks could be accessible and better), power outlet (1), no trashbin, a bit noisy outside (especially if you are on the street & on morning), bus/visa service, laundry 10k/kg, checkout 12h

In the end, bedbugs, ...

The Lao Youth Inn is just aacross the Wat Mixay (Temple) in the tourist area of Vientiane, close to the waterfront.
The GH is relatively big, our room (double) was relatively clean and had mosquito screens on the window, the bed was okay.
The only downside is, that the walls are thin and people talking in the next room or on the balcony can be very annoying.
The Youth Inn has bicycles (10.00 K) and motorcycles for rent.

If you are on a tight budget, this is not a bad solution!

Youth Inn 1 was infested with bed bugs. We thankfully inspected the beds before paying, and left quickly. Youth Inn 2 was not. The rooms were reasonable. 'Good,' I hear you say. Well, yes, but the tale has only just begun.

Firstly, the staff were rude and unhelpful, and would say one thing very clearly, but then would later create an utterly different reality. We had our laundry done with them, and they informed us that it would be ready by 3pm the next day, and told us each how much it would cost. The next day at 3pm we were told to come back at 5. Then at 7, and then at 7:30. We gave them time and went for dinner; when we arrived at 10:30pm suddenly it would be arriving tomorrow morning. The next morning came... and it went. It was late afternoon by the time that we decided we just wanted it back, and that we didn't care what state it was in. Some of our party had booked tickets to leave that morning on the basis of their bogus promises, and had missed their coaches.

They then had the cheek to lie and finally tell us something: that it was damp. We asked where it was and discovered it was at Youth in 1 (the place with the bedbugs). Having walked down to the site where our laundry supposedly was and after waiting 5 minutes, the clothes arrived bone dry, folded and clean (though with other people's items in our bags). I suspect they had been ready for a while but the staff wanted to keep us there for yet another extra night so that they could make more money out of us. They then informed us that they would give us a discount for the trouble which had been caused, but tried to charge us more than we'd orignally be told. The SAME man informed us that our clothes were different weights from the original quoted price. Eventually he saw we weren't budging but the whole thing felt like an utter shambles.

Don't go there.

location is fine, sheets were clean but service is pretty poor, sleepy quality (we could here guests in next room and hall) pretty crappy and my shoes were stolen from the lobby, i would stay somewhere else next time. price was cheap but for $3 more you can stay next door and looked much better.
