I don't like chains in general and didn't like Joma either. Laos has inherited French pastry tradition, so you can find small cafes offering a lot better croissants and coffee than the Joma. Try "Croissant d'Or", for instance.
Plus, Laotian coffee is excellent almost everywhere, so why go for the Starbucks-like option?!

Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your visit. To clarify a couple points-
1) Our coffee is 100% grown and roasted in Laos. You can learn all about our coffee here: http://www.joma.biz/the-coffee/
2) We are not a French bakery; our only French offering is our croissants. We focus mainly on American/Canadian-style fare. Like you say there are a few great French bakeries in town as well, though we offer something different.
3) While we are a chain, we're definitely on the smaller side as chains go, with only 5 locations in 3 cities in 2 countries. We have no interest in becoming a soulless, big box style corporation such as the one you invoke several times in your review. But most visitors to our cafes really seem to enjoy our coffee, food, and atmosphere, so we like to grow slowly but surely to share this with more customers in new places, with the same standards and quality you would find at an independent cafe. (Just because we have more than one location doesn't make us any less independent, by the way.)
