“Very poor quality and poor value for money”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

This is supposed to be a luxury class hotel, but in fact it is a hangover from the Soviet era. The staff are unfriendly and unhelpful, the rooms are to a very basic standard with very few amenities, and the air conditioning doesn't work even on the hottest days and nights. As for breakfast, well it was one of the worst spreads I've come across in many years of travelling. There are now many decent coffee shops in Bishkek, so at the sort of prices the Al Keme charges they definitely should be able to offer more than instant coffee at their buffet. Definitely one to avoid if at all possible.

The hotel is pretty much run down. A/C in the room was not working, After 3 days of numerous complains it was centrally turned on. So, three nights of sleep were destroyed. Outside temperature drops at night a little, but you can't open the terrace door because of highway noise. Breakfast (included) is served between 6 and 10am. If you don't eat before 6:30am you will not see much food left. Elevator doors are really swift and if don't jump in the cabin fast you'll get a good punch. Towel service in the pool is intermittent. Sometimes you have to wait 30 min to get a towel. Although the pool is supposed to be heated it is actually not. The only source of heat is sunshine. I've seen quite a number of people entering the pool right from the street. Judge for yourself if you want to stay in the place like this.

Apparently the Hyatt is better, so if you can, stay there. Room is Soviet with a hard, awkward bed, no alarm clock, 5 clothing hangers, no coffee maker, no tea kettle, not even pens. The shower varies by room. There are two thin pillows, and you will only have one towel per room. The hotel itself is awful - the gym smells like a dead skunk and features one very cheap, narrow treadmill that stalls, 3 dumbbells (5 kilos and 1 kilo), a chest press, 2 awful ellipticals and a bench. The indoor pool has no water. The outdoor pool is used by locals, so is crowded and full of kids. The basketball court has no basketballs (and no, the front desk can't help you.) The restaurant is under construction. Internet is $10 / day, but if you ask they will waive it. Breakfast has gotten better but on the first day, I came down and there was literally no food except brightly colored childrens cereal. Coffee is only instant. On the positiveside, nothing has been stolen from my room so far. The hotel is not in the very center, which is actually a good thing for air quality and quiet. But a double is $220 with breakfast included, and of course that's obscene.

Room Tip: Everything is negotiable. You want to use the pool at 5 am but the sign says it only opens at 8? Jus...

I spent one night here and found this to be a very nice hotel. You can see the Tian Shan mountains from most rooms including ours (1508). Free PC access in the business center but not free wifi in the hotel. There is a $10 charge. The air conditioning did not cool as well as we liked, though the minibar frig was great. There are only 220v plugs so you must bring a converter for 110v appliances.

There is more than one elevator but it seems there is generally only one working at a time. They have a very nice outdoor pool but it was not open for use. The grounds are well protected. The breakfast was varied and really good!! But the hotel is not within walking distance of any key sites.

Our standard room was very acceptable with the usual twin bed configuration. The hotel is located next to an old Soviet style airport (Frunze). CNN and BBC available on TV. Wake up calls were unsuccessful so bringing your own alarm is important. The hot and cold water is reversed from normal convention. Altogether I liked this hotel and recommend it.

Room Tip: High floor, end room. Again, there are no nonsmoking floors and even if there were, locals smoke in...

This was a nice hotel 7 years ago until it was taken over by a local company. After that there has not been a single renovation done. It is very expensive according to its service and comfort.

The view of the mountains from the room are quite spectacular and the rooms are adequate although not as luxurious as the cost. The breakfast buffet was incredible. The staff are pretty friendly. It is a bit out of town although the bus line is nearby and it is no problem getting a taxi. Some of the embassies are nearby too. I would never stay here on my own expense as I am a budget traveler, but stayed here for work and was quite happy with the hotel. Also, the business center was convenient and provided free computers but you have to pay $10 per day for internet

Room Tip: If you like to walk the stairs, get a room lower down although the higher floors have a better view.

This is a big hotel with the usual reception, souvenir shop, small business centre, health room facilities. We stayed as a very large group. The bedrooms were comfortable and clean including the ensuite bathroom, minbar, tv (Kyrgiz, Russian, BBC World, German channels etc). Toiletries were provided, although when I returned for a second visit after a few days the bath plug had disappeared !! However, there is a maid service on each floor and good communication skills will help you out. I got the balcony door stuck and a quick call to reception resolved the problem. The wake-up telephone call booked was on time.
There was a currency exchange desk next to reception. English was spoken by the front og house staff and most of the waiter staff. I suggest eating in the bar/lounge or by room service - both proved efficient; unlike the dining room where the staff were simply overloaded and could not cope with the demand of a full (small) dining room !! The food menu is broad enough to satisfy most tastes. The food is good enough but not gourmet.
This hotel is next to the old (no longer used) Frunze airport. Good views of the foothills and high mountains from the balcony. When you arrive, a porter may well help you to your room - try to have som, dollar or euro currency ready for a small tip.
Baggage security proved good - I left two small bags for a couple of days between visits and they were completley secure. (Keep the security chit !)
Taxi to the centre of town would be about 150 som. Agree the price with the taxi driver before you get into the car. Best to nominate the price and take it from there.!
This is not a western standard business hotel but overall, a reasonable place to stay.
