“A Good Hotel in Bishkek”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

This is a good choice in Bishkek with the added bonus of a pool ! The rooms are comfortable and the staff at reception have great English and are really helpful. Breakfasts are good and if you ask they do evening meals. It is indeed something of an oasis - don't let the occasional trains put you off. Walking into town is easy. In all a good choice as a place to start and end travels around Kyrgystan.

Warning: your first approach to this hotel will not be inspiring. A block away you have a container storage area on the left, the road is very rough, and it has the most formidable speed bump I've ever encountered. (I am convinced it was originally designed to ruin tanks--T-34s or Tigers.) At the end of road you make a sharp right turn and Wow! You enter a different world. The entrance from your vehicle is through a fine wrought iron gate and a short walk to stairs leading to the lobby. The desk staff is friendly , most accommodating, and speak excellent English. An entrancing lobby is open to a kitchen, tables, and has a free computer. (Wi Fi is available.)
But the walk to the lobby is part of a revelation. I was there three non-consecutive nights in July. My walk then was past many flowers, both in the ground and potted. The grounds are both beautiful and manicured to perfection. More of that later.
The hotel contains 20 rooms in two buildings. To reach the second you pass a large swimming pool with first class decking. It was a surprise to see such a fine layout for a small hotel.
The rooms are clean, simple, and functional with A/C and a refrigerator, and tasteful art work. No face cloths, however. My limited travels in this part of world indicate that this is SOP. Bring your own face cloths if you want them.

I must comment on the grounds. They are extensive, especially given the hotel size. They are beautiful, very well tended, and offer excellent opportunity for relaxation and contemplation. I wish I had had more time to enjoy the setting.
The grounds contain a yurt where you may stay. Bear in mind that "going native" means no running water. For that you must make a short trip to the pool facilities.
I note that in earlier reviews the nearby railroad is mentioned. From one of my rooms I could see the tracks but they are in a no-whistle zone. The occasional and slight rail noise was of no consequence for me.
Finally, two notes: cab service is prompt and economical--simply ask at the desk. (All my drivers were very respectful of the "tank trap.") Secondly, the owner was or is a "collector." Of about object any you can mention. His work makes for fascinating decorations throughout the public areas.
Try this hotel. I am sure you will like it.

Room Tip: No elevators so if you are handicapped stick to the first floor.

This hotel is tucked down some side streets and borders the railway, but is quite nice inside and a short walk to plenty of places to eat, or minimarkets etc. Definitely an easy walk to the centre of the city to see what is there, but as many people do, bishkek is mearly a place to visit on the way to visit the rest of the country. The pool area is good also and if you want a cheap bed, they have a yurt out back

It is a small but pleasant little hotel/guest house. The ladies at the front dest were always polite and helpful, plus took time to chat.

I arrived early because of the flight schedule and they put my in Room 01, which was the only one they had available at the time. That room faced the railroad tracks and I could hear the train on occassion. It had 2 single beds that were comfortable but took up most of the floor space and made it crammped. There was no place to set or open luggage but as a solo traveller it was fine for me. The bed and pillow was comfortable and I slept well after my journey into Bishkek from London via Istanbul. I did not look into any other room to see if they were better, so I could very well have been put in the last room they had available.

Because of my work I travel to a LOT of places that can be unpeasant. The Asia Mountains Hotel was fine for me, I was happy and comfortable. I would stay there again and recommend it to anyone who just loves a relaxed and friendly atmosphere without expecting 4* or 5* luxury.

Room Tip: Stay away from the side with the train...

My first visit to Bishkek was spent at Sakura's Guest House, one-fifth the price but better in some ways.

For my second visit I went for a proper hotel. Asia Mountains is clean and nicely appointed, with good staff. It's hidden away a bit but a shortish walk to the main streets. My room was nice but a bit cramped. Fridge, TV with western news channels (plus an option to turn off the Russian dubbing for some other western shows!), aircon, good free wifi and some mountain views. The bed was much larger than the singles you normally in central Asia. It seemed too small for 2 people so maybe a double room has 2 of these.

The bathroom was even more cramped although functional. The shower was a disappointment - no wall clip for the handheld unit is pretty bad at this price, plus the water heater was mounted above the business end of the bath, further disrupting one's showers.

Breakfast was a nice smorgasbord but everything was cold when I got there.

The biggest issue for light sleepers would be noise. I slept well but whenever I was awake I noticed the trains, the loud fridge, plumbing noises and hallway and reception noise coming through the thin pine door.

I've given thumbs down because I'll try elsewhere if I come back to Bishkek, but other people there at the time liked it so if you're not fussed by the issues above it might be ok.

I stayed here twice whilst travelling along the " Silk road route" I found this hotel one of the best on my trip. Rooms were clean, breakfast was great, even @ 6 am. The best bit was the pool, great after a day at the local bazaar, beer not bad either

This small hotel is hard to find; ulica Lineinaya [the street], is broken into two separate sections, so most taxi drivers go wrong. But it's worth persisting; the hotel is a little gem. Clean, comfortable rooms, a good breakfast, and very helpful people [Thank you, Ulyana!] to guide you round Bishkek and further afield.
Some occasional noise from the railway just south of the hotel; otherwise quiet.
A small swimming pool [not filled, when I was there in early April], and nice gardens.

Room Tip: Facing north - away from the railway.
