We arrived in Phnom Penh and upon discovering that the Top Banana Hostel was fully booked, asked the lady behind the bar for a recommendation and she sent us to Okay Guesthouse. We went along with it as we'd also seen it in the LP. As we arrived the staff were helpful and we settled on a budget $8p/n double fan room with ensuite. We were helped with our bags etc and we were extremely happy with our find.
Everything changed when we went back downstairs into the communal bar area, when we were immediately set upon by the hostel's small army of tuktuk/taxi drivers asking us where we were going, how we were getting there and being extremely pushy in terms of booking excursions. This continued throughout our 3 day stay at the hostel and became increasingly irritating, to the point that we purposely didn't use them for our excursions. These guys are either employees of, or affiliated with, the hostel and it is amazing that the hostel doesn't rein them in. We drew the line at being hounded up the road...rant over.
The rooms were clean, a little dated, but well worth the money paid for them, although the bathroom was a little ropey (no cistern lid). Basically a paint job and tlc would sort them out (but would probably add a few dollars to the price tag). The bar area was also very nice and a great place to chat to other travelers, it was just a shame that it was ruined by the salesforce.
Location was good, a nice strip of bars and hostels.
