This was recommended by the manager of California 2 which was full when I tried to book. The hotel is just recently completed. It's in a great location directly opposite the river and the ferry terminal in walking distance of cafes, bars and restaurants. On the other side of the night market to the crowded tourist section along the riverside.
The room was nicely fitted out. Plenty of space and a nice long desk to work on, overlooking the river through big picture windows. A perfect inspiration to work or to sit out on the balcony in the evening or early morning and enjoy the sights! I was in room two on the third floor, with windows only partly glazed so people walking to the end room have to pass in front and can see right in. But there are long drapes to block out the windows when privacy is needed. The mattress and pillows were hard which made for a not entirely comfortable sleep.
The bathroom was spacious with walls and floors covered in nicely textured tiles. The hot water in the shower did not work. This was not a big issue for me since the room temperature water was just fine. The wash basin had a leak underneath which caused water to spray on my leg. The toiletries were cheap bar soaps/shampoo that you might find in a room half the price. The washbasin soap dispenser was empty. There was a massive thunderstorm in the early evening and rainwater flooded the balcony and under the glass entrance door into the room, and I had to put a bathroom mat and towel in there to soak it up.
Wifi did not work in the room but this may have been simply a reset the router solution. Downstairs in the narrow dining area, wifi worked fine.
The dining area consisted of a narrow section with three tables, and a wider more spacious area outside by street 102. The menu is diverse and includes a good range of Western, Asian and Khmer foods. The English breakfast I had was ok but there could have been more on the plate.
The service was good during the day, mostly due to the competent Mr Sokhet who went out of his way to help. I emailed them and got a quick quotation on room availability and rates, then follow-up confirmation. If you are in need of transportation, look no further, they sell tickets on buses, boats and cars at the concierge desk.
More attention to the little details (plumbing, doors, toiletries) could make this place much more attractive. Otherwise good value, and unbeatable location.
