“Cambodia at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Ideally situated close to all shops and bars, this hotel is as quiet as it gets. Above all, you'll meet the friendliest staff, especially Mr July. Great clean rooms, amazing service and a lot of fun. A place you'll meet nice people, enjoy good breakfast, and chill out in a clean, salted water pool.
if there is a place to stay in Phnom Penh, this is it! Child and family friendly, Monument Hotel is also a NO sex tourists place! A true experience of the city.
My best stay in Cambodia ever. Highly recommended

Room Tip: Go for the deluxe with balcony, especially 305, since you can see the monument from there.

Overall a very good hotel in a good location. Bathroom floors and walls would need an urgent overhaul (mold and old stains) and don't appear very clean. We still felt comfortable, the beds are very nice, so is the pool and the terrace on the 4th floor (great view).

Hi Lorenz,
Thanks for writing a review about our property and for your feedback. Since we continuously like to incorporate customer feedback into any steps we take at the hotel, therefore your comments are highly invaluable. We will definitely look at the items that require refurbishing. Although the property was redone last year but a general inspection will again be done following your observations. Thanks again for writing about our place and we wish you all the best.

Unfortunately we were very early for checking due to an early flight. It the staff were very obliging and we were given a room straight away. Room was clean and bed very comfortable. The location is great, tuk-tuks waiting outside the door and lots of places to eat nearby including a great Italian place. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful during our stay, they couldn't have done more to help us! If you get the chance go on the sunset cruise, relaxing to see Phnom Penh float past at sunset and drink a beer. The pool at the hotel was lovely to come back to after a hard days sightseeing, a little oasis of calm with a lovely little bar next to it serving draught beer and cocktails which were flowing during the happy hour- 75c for a beer! The only thing we found a bit disappointing was the breakfast, keep it simple and offer a few items cooked to order. No need for the cold buffet items. The bien from the rooftop restaurant is lovely in the cool of the morning whilst munching your fried rice though! Would definitely come back here.

Room Tip: Choose a room which is not on the ground floor, but with a balcony.

I read some positive reviews about the Monument before I left and not knowing anything about Phnom Penh, I booked it. I liked what they stood for and the organizations they supported. I don't usually stay at hotels but this place seemed more than just a hotel. And it was exactly that.

When I got to Phnom Penh, I immediately came down with a fever. The hotel staff took care of me and Sarom took me to the foreigner's clinic. Amazing!
Basically, I was sick for two days and all the staff including Vichet, July, and the rest were more like family than hotel staffs.

Also, it was away from the river front so it was quiet at night and very chill during the day. You can get on a tuk tuk and pretty much get anywhere (main attractions) you want for less than $3. The tuk tuk drivers outside were fun to talk to as well, they also take turns so I thought that was very different from Thailand.

Well, have fun at the Monument, it's truly an amazing place to stay!
Don't let the mosquitos bite ya! Keep smiling, that will get you pretty far in Cambodia :)

We had a large room, overlooking the pool on the 1st floor. Great room and a beautiful old building. Staff were super helpful and kind. Breakfast was decent, served on the top floor (no lift!) The pool was sparkling and a must after a hot day out. Need tuk-tuk to get around but plenty standing outside.
I would recommend this hotel for a short stay in the city.

Lovely hotel. Rooms could do with a bit of a spruce up buy the staff were so great that you don't mind.

The quietness of the place and a nice clean pool makes for a lovely oasis after a day out and about.

Great happy hour too. Try the "Monument Splice" - very tasty cocktail.

We had a large double room on the 3rd floor. Lots of space, clean, comfortable bed, great water pressure and adequate hot water (get scrubbed and get out). Breakfast was typical but plentiful. The pool was sparkling and lovely to return to after a day out and about. Not much room to lounge by the pool though. Staff was super! Very helpful - arranged our bus tickets - and were very attentive.
The location is quiet with some good dining choices nearby and the riverfront is only a $2 tuktuk away.
I would recommend this hotel for a short stay in the city.

Room Tip: We have no problem with stairs but could be an issue for some I suppose.
