“Very entertaining, good show!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2014

We bought tickets to the show when we visited the National Museum earlier that day. Didnt really know what to expect but we were pleasently surprised. The show is very well introduced and information is given about the different performances. The dancers and musicians (former art students) really seemed to enjoy themselves. The show was very entertaining and gives a good insight in Cambodian arts and dance. All the profits go back into the production of the shows. This is deffinatly something to see when in Phnom Penh!

“Magnificent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2014

A truly Cambodian show held by Cambodian Living Arts, to help maintain and develop the art traditions wiped out by the khmer rouge regime. They offer 3 shows and I attended "Passage of Life", a discovery of Cambodian life from the ancient times, with elaborate rituals accompanied by Khmer musics. They cover the journey beginnning with birth to youth to celebration of love and wedding, up to sickness and the closing farewells of death.
The performance takes place in a courtyard next to the National Museum, and lasts for about one hour. The artists are absolutely great at their job, dancers, singers, whoever, the story is in khmer language, but English subtitles are available above the stage.
It deserves every dollar spent.
In two words, magnificent and emotional.
I wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy the other shows.
Very well done !

“Best but demotivating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2014

The show was exceptional. All characters were passionate about their acts; it was almost like a real life event. It was very emotional in this show, Yike Mak Therng. The demotivating thing is that before the show and after the show, all the speech by the young guide was done in English only. It seemed like the show only caters to foreigners despite the fact that on that day, Cambodians made up more half of the audience. It was a shame that the show didn't have the introduction and conclusion in Khmer, which is a big part of our culture and despite the fact that the organizer claimed to help build Cambodia culture through arts. The mentality that Cambodians are not important, and make no difference is really devastating for younger generation like me.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. You make a good point and we've asked our FOH team to translate into English and Khmer when able. As an organization we care very deeply about the Khmer community. What you may not see is the promotions and demonstrations we do at local schools, offering student discounts and encouraging young students to join our arts courses. In October alone we had 100+ local students attend the show. So we are sorry you felt this way - and know that we are doing our best to help a growing arts community.
