“A little bit disappointing: web reviews and the website make you expect better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

Location is good and the staff is extremely friendly. The building is very well maintained and beautiful.
Our room was on the 4th floor and I expect that rooms on the other floors are better: we had a small bathroom with an open shower and a very low ceiling.
As mentioned before there is a lot of noise coming from inside the hotel: poor sound insulation makes you hear all the noise from the corridors.
I don't agree with other reviewers that were critical about the swimming pool: it's a great pool and the water is nicely cooled (often the opposite in Asia). Poolside there are 'private' patio's to rest and everything is very clean.
I don't agree either with all the positive remarks about the breakfast which is very basic and nearly 'minimalistic': and Asian, American or European breakfast is served: a small plate with toasted bread, some french bread, 1 croissant, a 'thimble' of butter and pineapple jam is all the 'Western breakfast' stands for.

Room Tip: Don't choose a room on the 4th floor: you'll need to take stairs as the elevator only reache...

Dear Valued Guest,

First, I would like to thank you for your helpful review of White Mansion Boutique Hotel.

The staff and I felt sorry that your experience was good but not excellent, as we wished it could have been. We are using your precious comments to improve everyday.

The main thing about Boutique Hotel is that they give you the opportunity to experience a stay in a unique private Mansion or Residence, with excellent service and warmth.

A boutique Hotel has charm and strong character compare to a chain hotel built as any apartment building around the world. White Mansion was built as a Private residence for the American Embassy in Phnom Penh, not as a basic hotel. Therefore, it is unique and not all the rooms are looking like each other in a sterile way. We had to manage with the existing construction: ie. elevator goes to the third floor (it gives a chance to experience one of the most amazing staircase in Phnom Penh) and 2 Deluxe rooms have smaller bathrooms. You were in one of then therefore you paid the lowest price. On the other end, I am sure you enjoyed the beautiful city view from your private terrace. This is exactly what a Boutique Hotel is about: giving you the feeling of leaving in a very special place abroad… with the plus and possibly few minus.

Shall you return to Phnom Penh, I would be delighted to show you some of our Junior Suites and Suites with ceilings over 4m high and space (40 to 60sqm).

Concerning the breakfast, as you said, you have the choice between 5 different quality complementary menus. Refills are also complementary, I am sorry that, perhaps, your waiter did not mention it clearly, creating a misunderstanding. This is the reason why, as you mentioned, breakfast is praised in almost all the reviews.

The F&B manager and his assistant are always in Le Cafe, ready to answer any of your questions or concerns. Please feel free to ask for them.

Once again, we all apologize and thank you for your feedback.

Kind regards,

Ms. Sokha Meu

We loved this hotel and wished we'd stayed an extra night! The rooms are huge and spotless and the beds very comfortable. The bathrooms are also huge and nicely decorated. Water and fresh fruit provided complementary which was really great. The breakfast was also good. The best part is the excellent service you receive here. Very friendly and very helpful. The friendly concierge (unfortunately cannot remember his name) arranged a good value trip and transport to another town so we avoided negotiating prices ourselves which is a huge bonus. Good location and advice on how to get to the main sites, restaurants etc. A great experience, highly recommend it.

We stayed at the White Mansions hotel for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon. This is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We were given a huge room next to the spa, the bed was really comfortable, it was quiet, the minibar was free for all soft drinks and was replenshed daily. They provided a fresh fruit platter in our room on arrival and also delivered biscuits to our room every night. The pool area is really nice and the breakfast is great (you choose from a menu and they prepare it fresh for you with coffee and juice). 10 minute walk from the Royal Palace and 15 minutes to the river. Could'nt recommend this hotel highly enough.

We spent two nights at the White Mansion in Oct 12 and would love to have stayed longer.
The hotel is beautifully decorated and the staff are very helpful and attentive. The aroma of the oils used in the spa that greet you as you walk in the front door are simply invigorating. The rooms are large and spacious and clean with modern decor. Possibly the only fault was the hand held shower that once hung on the provided wall attachment was at an angle that shot the water out beyond the shower cubicle. We stayed on the first floor and felt very special when walking down the grand old wooden staircase to the spacious foyer. Noise wasn't a problem, we did hear some doors closing and some movement in the room above but nothing that was intrusive enough to spoil our stay.
Breakfast was included and very nicely done. The pool area was small but adequate and well designed for a city hotel with limited space. Special mention for Mr Tom the tuk-tuk driver, can highly recommend for tours of the city.
Hotel was in a great location with good access to restaurants and attractions. Will be the hotel I come back to.....highly recommended.

Room Tip: Seek our Mr Tom for tuk-tuk and ladies across the road upstairs will do your washing very nicely and...

We stayed in this lovely hotel for 2 nights with our two children. The room we were given was huge and they set up 2 extra single beds for the kids at no charge. The room was spotless and really nicely decorated. There was a dvd and free movies at reception.
Breakfast was really nice and there was a wide choice from the menu.
The pool area was lovely and the kids enjoyed any spare time swimming.
The hotel is beautifully appointed but feels more like a guesthouse than a hotel- it's very intimate. The staff are fabulous and extremely helpful and friendly (this goes for just about every single Cambodian we met on our trip- except for the tiny child policing the toilets at Poipet visa office- but that is another story).
I have no trouble recommending this hotel- it was lovely. Wish we could have stayed longer.
