I am a frequent visitor to Phnom Penh from my home Thailand and am always pleasantly surprised at the plethora of tasty dining options in this hot and dusty but fast developing South East Asian capitol city. Samaky is located just off Norodom at Street 51, opposite Wat Lanka. It is open air with fans only so can be a bit toasty on hot and humid days...so basically everyday. However, it worth it for enjoying the tasty home-style cooking served up by the chefs and friendly staff of Samaky.
This review is based on two lunchtime visits. I concur with those who rate the food at Samaky highly. One thing I really like is their "build own salad" item, where you are presented with about 30 veggie, protein, and condiment options in order to make a salad completely to your own liking. This salad costs US$ 5 and presents you with a very large and filling salad, which can easily be a meal for the ladies or light lunch for a fella. I also can heartily recommend the beef or chicken stroganoff, which is very well done in a tasty mustard and wine cream sauce and served with a generous portion of tasty mashed potatoes.
There are many other interesting Western dishes...a mix of American and Euro-style dishes and your typical selection of Khmer standards. They also have pizzas but I didn't try one and there are many dedicated pizzerias in Phnom Penh where I would go for a pizza pie. The fruit shakes and smoothies are also refreshing and a bargain at $ 2 during happy hours. There is also the obligatory free wi-fi.
