Staff are probably the most friendly bunch of people i have met on my trip, a really cool and swanky rooftop roof bar. The food is above average and the pub crawl that the hostel runs helps to pay poor kiddies school fees. I will be back - Stay here is you can. Ads

Clean, tidy and busy hostel. Great place to meet fellow travellers in the upstairs bar. However, travellers tend to eat in the in house restaurant and price of food is reflected by this and was overpriced.

location was relatively central but need to get tuk tuks to most places including the riverside.

I enjoyed my time at Mad Monkey and made some great friends there. The staff was amazing and the beds were huge. The food was great though quite expensive. There were some cheap places with great food nearby. My only complaint would be the AC in the big dorm. It didn't work well enough for the space and everyone in the main area of the room, especially those on the top bunk, complained. (They may have fixed this). The other thing was the bar was stifling, but that's the weather!:-)

Room Tip: The big dorm was great for meeting people but maybe check whether the AC was fixed!

Prior to arrival was very excited to stay at the Mad Monkey given the high reviews. At first glance the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the downstairs bar was clean, however the shine wears off as you go deeper. Our first room smelled like a public washroom (damp, moldy smell) and there was no external window (the only very large window is directly behind the bed, covered only with a partially transparent blind, and looks into the hall). After moving to a second room above the bar (2nd floor) we found we had a broken air conditioner, and the noise from the bar downstairs meant we might as well have a blasting in room speaker... The staff was good about moving us to a third room with a working AC unit, but now we were disappointed to find it had no usable wifi connection.

Our fiends in another too upstairs had a wall with half the paint peeling off due to water leaching, and the same public washroom smell to the room.

We had previously paid online for a Giant Ibis (the bus transport company between cities) but there had been a mixup with the company and they had misplaced our payment. We asked the hostel staff if we could call and try to remedy the mixup but they refused to allow us to call, and instead told us to cross town and go in person.... Seems like they were just more interested in selling the ticket they have at the Mad Monkey.

Overall one of the worst hostels for the cost we have seen through SE Asia. Would agree with past reviews that say check out the bar/resto but don't arrive expecting great rooms to stay in. This hostel may have been nice once but heavy use and seemingly poor upkeep make it one to avoid in my books. Also, beware the tuk tuks right out front of the hostel, their prices are wayyyy more inflated than elsewhere in the city.

Dear guests we have a suspicion that this is not a real review, as we have no record of the guests name or email, they are also posting multiple negative reviews not just on our property but on multiple properties in Cambodia and Vietnam, those properties also have no record of this guest. Apologies for this please disregard until we can contact Trip Adviser. If this is a real review we will respond accordingly.

Amazing staff, theyre who make it at the mad monkey. Theyre all so friendly and make you feel part of the hostel straight away.

The food is also amazing but slightly overpriced but i think that could just be Phnom Penh.

They have travel services just like every other hostel and also have a team of nice tuk tuk drivers waiting outside.

Hostel is closer to bars, restaurants and clubs than i first thought. Also a mini mart on the corner.

Amazing hostel, would definitely go back there.

I could not have had a better experience here. Relaxing atmosphere, helpful staff and good food. Centrally located. Close to many coffee shops and restaurants while a step away from the noise of the riverfront. Tuk-tuks are abundant, S21 is walkable and the markets are just a short ride away.

Very helpful and accommodating. We accidentally left one of our passports at the Mad Monkey, Phnom Penh and didn't realize until we had already arrived in Siem Reap. They were able to bring the passport to the Mad Monkey in Siem Reap free of charge by the next afternoon. The staff was very helpful in finding and booking buses in and out of the city. There was miscommunication and we thought our bus would take us from the hostel, but the specific bus was leaving from the station instead. Mad Monkey organized a tuk tuk to take us to the bus free of charge.

Room Tip: We asked for a private room with two beds, but they only had private rooms with a queen bed. If you...
