“Very friendly staff and professional management”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012

I stayed here during my third trip to Cambodia and was really impressed with the management. The staff went out of their way to help us coordinate our onward travel and even recommended similarly well managed establishments to stay at on the southern coast. The whole place is a really polished operation and we didn't suffer any of the minor frustrations you sort of expect from SE Asian hotels/guest houses (particularly within this price range). Great value! We loved gazing out at the city from the rooftop bar - a real highlight of our trip. We would definitely stay at the local again.

I wish I could have stayed at the Local for longer! It had everything I needed. In the mornings, the girls would make me my coffee and I'd relax in the breezy courtyard downstairs. During the day I loved just wandering around the Toul Tom Poung area. And then at night there was always a few people (at least) to party with at the rooftop bar. By the end of the week that I was there, other friends I'd met who were living in Phnom Penh were coming there to have a few games of pool and a couple of cocktails upstairs after they finished work.

I stayed at The Local at the end of my trip to Cambodia and it was a really nice place to finish off my exhausting yet exciting holiday. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city or riverside. The owners are foreigners and incredibly friendly and welcoming. You can see that they treat their staff well which is nice. The guesthouse/bar has had a complete makeover, everything is pretty much new. Overall The Local has a fresh, welcoming feel to it. There's a steady flow of expat regulars and customers so meeting new people is easy however if you want to have some time to yourself the place is big enough to just do your own thing, read a book, catch up on emails. Fast wifi in the whole building that never cut out.

Room Tip: I had the new room on the mezzanine level which had a massive bathroom and just up from the kitchen...

The local is pretty much in the heart of all the action in Phnom Penh. It is a quick walk to the Russian Market, the riverfront and heaps of great cheap restaurants but actually, the food served in the guest house restaurant is fantastic and obviously made from high quality produce. The real highlight of my stay was the people I met here!! All the saff are wonderfully attentive and helpful and the bar attracts a cool mixed crowd of travelers, locals and expats and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. The rooms are great - clean, nicely furnished, funky and by far nicer than others in the city in the same price range, not to mention it has REAL showers. Highly recommended!!
