“Charming accommodation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

Our family of 4 (kids welcome here!) thoroughly enjoyed our recent 2 nights at Circa 51.
It is well located, behind high walls, a short walk from the Royal Palace and riverfront.
The hotel is a beautifully renovated '50s building, with large room, and windows, high ceilings, gorgeous en suites, fan, air conditioner. There is a large pool. Wi fi.
Breakfast is substantial, with hot options, in addition to the continental offerings.
Other meals and snacks available. We craved pasta and had a pasta carbonara, really excellent.
Lovely owners, friendly staff.

Circa 51 is a great boutique hotel run by marvelous, warmhearted people. We have been here with our small daughters during 10 days in Phnom Penh and the Circa 51 felt immediately like our second home. Cosy, quiet, clean, beautiful, relaxing, with big, comfortable and stylish rooms, and a great pool. The position is perfect ( central but quiet) and among the trips we enjoyed the big pleasure of small things like eating the mangos directly from the tree, a glass of wine and good conversation with Majed and Ivy, the owners, who give a magical touch to your stay and insights into local life. Remarcable from all points of view, and our daughters ask again and again : when do we go back home to Cambodia ?

Room Tip: All the rooms we saw are great, stylish, comfortable.

intimate place with only 10 rooms you have that almost family feel to the place.
You are made to feel welcome straight away and get the feeling nothing is too much trouble, we had a room upstairs which was very nice, big bed ,clean and modern bathroom, a/c unit very capable(we were upgraded on 2nd night to another lovely room but actually preferred the first room as the a/c seemed to work better) the owners are very personable and helpful with information and advice and have assembled a team of staff that are very professional. the pool area is comfortable and while we were there had plenty of room to laze about plus no restriction on when to use it so if you want a swim at midnight you can have one. Breakfast is from a set menu and was perfectly adequate and if you want more you only have to ask, i did and it was no trouble.
only one comment of concern and it is purely a personal feeling in that the high walls can seem a trifle oppressive.Internet is free and worked well, paid $62 a night which while some might view that as a little expensive i felt it was there or there abouts.
surrouding area is safe and we walked about night and day without any problems.

Room Tip: choose one of the upstairs rooms they are worth the extra money.

Ric of perth west australia august 2012 .After looking at the comments from t/a my partner and daughter booked. The rooms where big and well appointed for an older french style building. the bathroom in our room was modern , hot water and pressure was great, the pool was great, but the area around the the pool needs livening up im sure yvette& husband will get around to that, as they have done a super effort in the past 2yrs. the breakfast was adequate, and lunch pool menu food was really nice.the servce was excellen from all staff, well done Yevette.i would have no hesitation in recommending circa 51its also close to all the good water & eating places.

Room Tip: room 6&9

We had a nice time at Circa 51. The rooms were very clean and spacious, the staff was pleasant and helpful, and the location of the hotel is good. There are high walls surrounding the hotel, a friendly dog inside, and a guard outside, so we felt safe and a bit removed from the busy city. Once the gates open, it was easy to find a tuk tuk or walk to several restaurants.

The staff was very helpful with ordering bus tickets for us but they charged an additional fee for this (they didn't tell us there was a charge - we found out when we asked for a receipt). They offered us cold drinks upon arrival and breakfast was very good. We had dinner at the hotel one night that was also good; I believe they offered a menu from a nearby restaurant, then had the food delivered.

We traveled around Cambodia but our base was Phnom Penh, so we checked in/out of this hotel about three different times in one week. The last night we checked in, they didn't have the twin room we requested, so they offered to give us two separate rooms instead, without charging us anything extra. They were apologetic and I was very impressed with the solution.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling to Phnom Penh.

After a long 24 hour travel day, and a nearly midnight arrival, we were greeted warmly and were quickly shown our room. The room was very nice but the bedding was dreamy. You know what i am talking about. Five minutes later we were in their pool, drink in hand. Their pool and surround is fantastic!

We only ate breakfast there but it was well prepared. They also have a restaurant, that is not part of the hotel - Saffron - it was a short Tuk Tuk ride from the hotel, and everything we ate and drank was great. The hotel owners and their entire staff were very accessible and helpful. Not to mention friendly, polite & they spoke English exceedingly well. The 24 hour discreet security presence made our stay all the more relaxing. It is after all in a busy location, but with the very high wall around the property it was both peaceful & quiet.

They also assisted us with travel to our next destination. We really lucked out when we chose Circa 51 as our first hotel, but they did set the bar pretty high. We hope to return there soon.
