“One of the best hotels I've stayed at”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014

I don't normally post reviews for hotels, but the Sofitel Phnom Penh was so good that I had to write something to commend their outstanding service. Having stayed at various 5-star hotels (e.g. Peninsula, Shangri-la, Grand Hyatt) in the region, I would rate this as one of my favourite hotels.

Positives:

1. Service - 10/10. Every single staff I encountered at the hotel was extremely warm and welcoming. The concierge was knowledgeable and even remembered what they suggested to us the day before, to ensure we had a variety of restaurants to visit. All the staff at the Le Coupole were also excellent.

2. Architecture - The whole hotel (especially the lobby) is very grand, a bit like the Peninsula Hong Kong for those who are familiar with it.

3. Food - The breakfast buffet was marvelous. I particularly enjoyed the freshly squeezed juice and cut fruits, which were freshly cut in front of you upon your request. The homemade ice cream was also excellent.

Things to improve on:

1. Gym/spa: A wider range of cardio facilities would be great. It would also be nice to have fitness classes (e.g. spinning, yoga). A hotel that does well in this aspect is the Grand Hyatt Taipei.

Other comments:

The construction work next door is not a pretty sight, but there was very little noise/disturbance. I'm sure having this shopping mall at the hotel doorstep will be good for the hotel in the long run. Apart from that, this hotel is truly magnifique as the hotel claims!

Dear Guest,

First of all, it is an honour for us to be the first hotel you are writing about. Thank you for your kind comments regarding our Ambassadors, it is very rewarding for them to learn that guests appreciate their professionalism. On another note, I am glad to count a new member among our La Coupole’s ice cream fan club!

I have noted your comments regarding our fitness centre. May I suggest you during your next visit to try our Sports Club offering more machines and classes such as yoga, pilates, dance and much more.

The entire team of the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra is looking forward to welcoming you again.

Yours Sincerely,

Spacious room, good services and relaxing resort. We love the lemongrass essence oil within the property. I tried the chocolate at "The Chocolate" cafe, it's fabulous! We stayed 2 nights & had our meals mostly in town cause we want to try the local stuff. If you are dessert lover and have sweet tongue like us, you may try the dessert at Do Forni as we did, although after a full dinner in city. The passion fruit creme brulee is a perfect match, another impressed is Tiramisu, both recommended by restaurant staff Nimol, a very passionate young man who shared lots of local information with us.

The minor defects are:
1. mind your doorstep when you open the hotel room door.
2. inside sauna, only cold water in shower room.

Overall is wonderful experience for us.

Dear gastronome,

It is a pleasure to learn from our guests that Do Forni has become one of the venue in Phnom Penh for sweet teeth looking for delicious desserts. Our Chef Andrea Molinari will be very happy about his tiramisu and crème brulée’s success.
I have taken note of your comment about the Sauna and I thank you for it. It has been adjusted.

I am looking forward to welcoming you again in Phnom Penh.

Yours Sincerely,

Stayed for 3 nights - pricey for King room with balcony which we couldn't use as it overlooked a building site - had paid for accommodation in advance and no offer was made to upgrade or change our room despite the hotel being quite empty.

Rooms large, well appointed, clean and nicely decorated - the bed was very comfortable. Free internet access. Location wise, it is a little far away from the main areas and is currently next to a building site for a large shopping mall.

Restaurants relatively expensive and spa definitely overpriced. Italian restaurant's food was, however, exemplary with impeccable service.

All staff courteous and very helpful.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
I regret that we have not offered you an alternative room as we are of course pleased to do so when there are rooms available.
On the other hand, I am pleased to learn that you appreciated our amenities and design, and enjoyed your culinary travel to Italy with Do Forni’s menu.

This place is all style. The rooms are beautiful, and the staff are very attentive. Dany in particular looked after us. We travel regularly and were upgraded to a suite, its probably the nicest stay we have ever had.

Room Tip: We had a suite, which was supurb.

We had booked a superior room and we're very surprised to be upgraded to their no2 suite as the hotel was full with a conference and we had booked months ago. There was absolutely nothing you could fault about the Sofitel and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. The breakfasts were perfect in all respects and only offered the very top quality food. We travel extensively and this is by far the best hotel we have stayed in.

I loved the hotel service and spacious rooms. The staff was extremely helpful - they even helped loan me a necktie when I discovered I was going to attend a formal event. I initially found the location a bit inconvenient for seeing the city; but that was easily remedied by an inexpensive tuk-tuk ride. My only disappointment was the quality of the food from room service. The service was great, but the food was merely average. This was unexpected, because the food in their restaurant was great.

The bath room was very nice . The hotel is in a great location near the river and nightlife , also very safe , easy to get tuk-tuks at the front .
