“amazing place to be!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2010

blue dog will always have a special place in my heart!Me and my friends stayed there for few weeks! it is owned by a very sweet family. The owner and his wife are always super helpful and kind. if you need something, they will always do their best to find a way to help you out (the owner helps you with the visa, bus tickets, etc...) and the wife is always more than happy to make you a delicious meal. They have the cutest son ever!I cannot forget Kok who gives a special vibe to the hostel. He has a tuk-tuk, so you can always ask him for a ride and he will be more than glad to help out for a fair price+you will always feel safe. He can take you to the killing fields and tell you more about it himself, or take you out on a great party or cambodian bbq - you name it. Location is great - walking distance to many things worth seeing in Phnom Penh. Safe neighborhood. Rooms are all clean, have a fan, some have private, some shared bathrooms. They even do your laundry. If you want 5 star hotel, this is obviously not it, but if you want a warm, home-feel envrionment, that is the best place to go!I highly recommend it!

I do not feel like this place is a hotel. It feels more like a family has taken me in for two days! There's a sweet little kid walking around and even the family cat gave me a friendly visit.

When their resident tuk tuk driver couldn't make it, the guesthouse owner personally drove me in his car instead, but still charged me the tuk tuk price. Not only that, he also shared first hand stories of himself during the Khmer Rouge times.

Everybody in the family, as well as their tuk tuk drivers are all friendly! I had a nice chat with one of their tuk tuk driver's friend who accompanied me to the museum !

I feel safe and well taken care of.

The rooms are simple, made out of wooden boards, and you may hear people walking around. So don't expect quality in physical space, but well, it's why the rates are not expensive.

If you are looking for a guesthouse with heart and soul, this is the place.

Good location and very friendly place. A quiet place to relax from the crowded city of PP and still very close from the center and other attractions. That's the only guesthouse I'll remember from my trip to Cambodia, the others are not worth mentionning. The people are nice, welcoming, give some good advice and make you feel at home. Also good food to eat there, khmer and western food, prepared by the wife of the owner.

We started our travels across Cambodia and Vietnam in Blue Dog Guesthouse and we felt so at home and loved the family who own it so much we went back. Its fairly basic accommodation but you have everything you need. The family are very welcoming and open about there culture and there experiences and willing to share them with you. The tuk tuk driver (Kok) who is the brother of the owner is a great guy and can take you too some lovely places in Phnom Pehn and also gave us some great recommendations for the rest of Cambodia and sorted us out a Tuk tuk driver in Siem Reap and accommadation. The hotel is in the perfect location with walking distance to the palace and the river and some good places to eat and drink. Lovely place to stay would definately go back!!

I backpacked for a month through Vietnam and Cambodia and this was by far my favorite guesthouse. Not only is it a great value - I paid $5 for a single with a fan which was more than enough even with the summer humidity - but a very cozy place with a common room that was an ideal setting to meet other travelers. The owner, Rithy, even took me out to an authentic Khmer dinner with his friends that he graciously paid for as well.

If you're looking for an authentic Cambodian experience, Blue Dog fits the bill.

If you manage to get the "room" (without a ceiling!) more like a box, beside the common area and shared bathroom you are gauranteed a maximium of 2/3 hours sleep with the constant disturbances throughout the night. you can count how many people are going to the toilet throughout the night and participate in discussions in the lobby right from your bed !!!! for 8$ a night with shared bathroom, really BAD DEAL !
only plus is free wifi to help you on ur sleepless night.

I was supposed to stay on or two days in Phnom Penh and ended up staying for 10 days thanks to the friendly owners of the Blue Dog ( Rithy and Hun). The guesthouse is rather small but really makes you feel at home. The common area is really cosy and great to meet the other friendly guests. Above all take your time to talk to Rithy, Hun and the Tuk-tuk driver. They have great stories on Cambodia and it's a unique chance to get to know Cambodian people.
And if you fancy a good party, you will not have to ask Rithy twice. He will love to show you the local bars of Phnom Penh and ABOVE all take you to the Karaoke! Great fun guaranteed!
