“OK, lets get real...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

Some of the negative reviewers need to take a look at themselves... if you don't understand that tuk-tuk drivers barter and want to maximise their return on a journey, then you don't understand SE Asia or your privileged economic postion in the world... if you don't like bartering, then fine, pay the price - you can easily afford it - but don't blame the drivers - its their town and their culture, not yours! And "hassle" ... weird how over thousands of occasions my smile and "no, thanks" has worked every time (ok, sometimes reacting to the follow up arguments with another smile, another "no, thanks" and just going about my business...).

So getting real: I stayed in a "private garden" room (no lower priced rooms available - its a popular place)

- lovely spacious room, good spec (tv, ac, fan, dvd, safe, fridge etc)
- powerful, hot shower (the showers in these rooms aren't solar heated)
- really lovely pool/ chill-out area, but all shady so no room to sun-bask if that's your thing
- great location, walking distance from the city centre/ riverside sites, bars and restaurants
- there was some noise all from outside: building work, dogs and a fairly vociferious child during the day and loud music from somewhere nearby in the evening (but not the Alleycat - which is great by the way). It didn't bother me, but I could see it might bother others
- ok breakfast - good fruit plate, disappointing pancakes, apparently a second cup of tea/ juice is included, but no-one was offering so missed out on that
- staff generally smiley and friendly, but not the most competent ever.

All in all, a really nice place, great city centre location. There maybe better places if (i) you're big into peace and quiet or (ii) you like to build a little sun worship inot your day.

We stayed at the Blue Lime for three nights in November, 2011. Because of my husband's recent knee surgery, we seek paces that are central -- and there weren't a lot of those with the convenience of the Blue Lime. The reservation process went easily, and we were received with a cold drink on arrival. The rooms are small -- but that doesn't matter. We chose a garden room, so it had a little outside view. The private pool rooms also looked nice. The rooms are all around an infinity pool, with cabana-like semi-private lounging areas if you just want to relax. But the selling feature is the secure and intimate environment (we love smaller hotels) and central location: We could walk to the Palace, museum, the riverfront, and the restaurants easily. We struck up a "friendship" with one of the tuk-tuk drivers outside, and he helped take us to the Kiling Fields, the prison, and some other sites that we couldn't walk to easily. The breakfasts were en plein air and ok, and it was convenient to have a bar with snacks, but I would suggest going out for dinner along the river or to other areas. I think we were advised well and made the right choice!

Room Tip: Private pool rooms looked especially great for romantic interludes!

Really stylish hotel with a beautiful pool area. Breakfast was included which was simple but yummy. Within walking distance to the Palace and Riverfront. We didn't have much to do with the service at this hotel as we were picked up by Aleesours, number 10 Sokha Komar tuk tuk driver at the bus depot who organised everything for us. He was fabulous. He spoke perfect English and was very knowledgeable. He took us to all the sights and organised our transport to Siem Reap- aleesours_1@hotmail.com ph:012497972.

We've stayed at three other places in PP now, and this is the one we'll keep going back to.

We stayed at the Blue Lime a year ago and really liked it.

This time we had a friend with a child and so had to stay elsewhere for a few nights but managed to get another night here once they'd gone (no children allowed at the Blue Lime - which makes sense with the pools). So glad we did - firstly the staff remembered us, which was nice, and secondly the combination of the good service, the lovely pool and common bar area is just perfect.

It is in a perfect location for getting to the museum, palace etc but also for the FCC or Friends for dinner. It's not in the main backpacker area so would suit people (like us!) who are a bit past the whole nightlife thing - though if you want to, there're plenty of Tuk Tuk drivers who'll take you there in only a few minutes.

The first time we had a room with a private pool which was totally lovely (though in the 'cool' season you may not need it as much and mostly in the shade - also there's something nice about sitting rounf the main pool.)

This time we had a room upstairs with a balcony overlooking the pool in the main reception building, a little smaller but it was also great, so depends if you like a big room or it doesn't bother you.

The fans are terrific, it's nice to have the option of not having air con on - it's all really clean and they've made the beds a bit more comfy than last time.

On the whole, it's a great hotel - and all for $60 a night. We'll be back next time we're in PP.

Room Tip: Ask for a private pool especially if you want it.

The good news is that we loved the beds--very comfortable. It has a more run-down feeling than the photos show. We too saw the rat, and it almost made us cancel our trip because one friend was so freaked out. But we left for Kam Pot and had a great visit there and returned to Blue Lime for our last night. The vintage Jaq sounded nice, but after two trips we figured we were getting gassed by the exhaust that seemed to come out of the air conditioning--the local taxis were not as bad. Staff was friendly and very casual. Food was good at breakfast, but not as good for dinner. No vodka or bourbon at the bar. Lovely pool and convenient location.

Room Tip: The private pool rooms look nice--especially after a hot day of city sights.

We arrived late at night, but we still had lots of help getting our bags up to our room and receiving a speedy check-in. When we first walked into our room, I felt it was a little gray and not aesthetically pleasing because of all the concrete. But the next morning I noticed all the nice touches with color and convenience. A mini fridge, an electric kettle, hair dryer, china teacups, chilled free water, a place to hang our clothes, pretty decorations and splashes of color with pillows. The bathroom was extremely spacious with Western facilities and there was always hot water. The curtains blocked out all the light, so I was surprised to see a lovely, big balcony attached to our room when I pushed them aside the next morning.

The breakfast was awesome and included in the price of the room. There were great options, and every morning we went down to the pool area to sit and order our breakfast under the shade of the banana and bougainvillea trees. The service was excellent and the staff greeted us with a big fruit plate and chestnut bread on our table before we ordered. Eggs, pancakes, muesli, yogurt, fried rice, bacon - all on the menu.

I was very pleased with the service, and the people in the lobby always answered our questions and tried to help us with big smiles. They cleaned the room everyday and provided more bottled water whenever we asked.

The location is perfect if you don't want to be on the Riverfront (which I don't because I didn't want to be in the middle of the bar district). It is right next to the Royal Palace/Silver Pagoda complex and the National Museum. The Riverfront district is only a ten minute walk away.

The only thing I didn't think was perfect was the price of the airport pick-up. It was $22, and getting a tuk-tuk or taxi is between $10-$6. But not dealing with the bother of finding a driver in the middle of the chaos and not getting ripped off might make it worth it.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't get Room 1 or 2, because it is right in the lobby and noisy. Also ask for a...

We always suggest to take taxis waiting at the airport, the cost is 9 USD. But we can also send our vintage Jaguar with our English speaking driver to wait for you and bring you back for 20 USD.

Cheers,

Alexis

The Blue Lime is located just a short walk to the river and close to the Royal Palace and museum. It is down a quiet alley and right next to a great bar that serves Mexican food, the Alley Cat. We had no trouble catching a tuk tuk to and from the Blue Lime and felt that it was a good value for the money.

The rooms are a good size with a great bathroom, and ours had a nice balcony. The pool is fantastic and had plenty of cabanas and lounge chairs. Also, the staff are very helpful and welcoming. On the down side, breakfast leaves a little to be desired, and our room was five flights up very steep stairs. In the morning we'd hear pigeons walking on the tin roof and it would wake us up. It would probably be best to ask for a room on one of the lower levels. Overall, though, we were very happy with the Blue Lime and would stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not on the top floor.
