“Much nicer than Wat Phnom”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

I highly recommend a visit to Wat Ounalom - it is both more beautiful and quieter than Wat Phnom and well worth a visit. Plus they have an 'actual' eyebrow of Buddha in a back building (there are no signs to tell you this, but it is the building behind the main temple, guarded by several statues of Vishnu.

If you're taking a trip up the riverside definitely drop in and wander about.

We loved our trip to this Wat. The area is just lovely. The tiles are incredible. The stupa's are also great. Well worth a look.

“Wat Ounalom”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

the seat of the Patriarch of Phnom Penh, just north of the National Museum and Royal Palace situated, admission free, temple of 6 to 18 clock clock early in the evening opened with the temple can go through it every time the doors are always open. Orange is the dominant color, even when the Buddhist monks move with the times - when I read the guide at the speck temple sat, was a monk, I looked over my shoulder and pointed enthusiastically to the name of Samdech Huot fact in the text, and then the corresponding statue in front of the altar, during which he had a iphone stuck on the left ear and called eagerly continued .... Samdech Huot mentioned fact, the Fourth Patriarch of Phnom Penh, who was killed under the reign of terror of Pol Pot over the age of 80 years. Do not miss the flashing lights framed by statues of Buddha on both floors of the temple, furthermore in the lower level, the beautiful murals depicting scenes from the life of Buddha. Behind the main temple there is a small stupa containing an eyebrow hair of Buddha - a low little vault, but extremely friendly atmosphere, the temple guard has an extra unlocked for us, turned mystic background music and Buddha-flashing lights, for and with us, incense burned, provided us with rose water sprinkled muttering prayers, while (hopefully - our Cambodian is unfortunately very rudimentary). Behind the stupa tombs of monks, to cats clean themselves in the sun. From the balustrade of the main temple you can see very nice down to this part of the plant. The entire complex is surrounded by a fence, towards the eastern part, ie to Flußpromenade, is illuminated at night with Glühlämpchengirlanden - very nice sight.

“Get your red string from here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

A lovely peaceful place in the normally chaotic Phnom Penh. Missed out on the eyebrow hairs but will surely check them out when I get back there next week.
Oh and as you will have guessed you can get your genuine monk blessed red string from here for a small donation, you cannot leave SE Asia without it.
