“Good Location, Bus Terminal is 7 mins Away on Foot”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2010

Travelling in Brunei on your own like me is no way easy because public transport is not reliable and always not available. Taxi (I was told only 40 taxis in the whole country) is not available as such on street but you have to call or order in hotel. The other public vehicle is minibus which I have to wait for 30-60 mins always and they cease service at around 6pm. Having learnt the previous bad comments on the free airport shuttle provided by this hotel, I chose to take a taxi by myself which costs BND25, so expensive for such ride of 15 mins only!

Hotel is well located. There is a bus (actually minibus as each car affords ~16 passengers) terminal within 7 mins walking distance. The minibuses are purple all charging BND1, no.1 goes to the Mall and Night Market in Gadong area which takes driving time 15 mins, no. 57 or 58 to Empire Hotel 45 mins, no.39 to Brunei Museum 10 mins. Royal Regalia Building, open market (tamu), water village, the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque and adjacent shopping complex with supermarket are all within 20 mins walking distance. You can also book the hotel van to anywhere eg it charges BND12 for return trip from and to Gadong night market.

About the internal of this hotel, it's dated, basic, acceptably clean. No provision except a towel, two glasses, a soap. TV channels are few, air con functional. Window locks are broken (I have viewed 3 rooms and all rooms are so) and thus thief, if any, can slide the window open and enter (though I believe it's a safe country as everybody is so rich, I feel unsecured rather).

It's a quiet hotel in a quiet city. Few people appear on the street once it turns dark around 6pm.

To me, this hotel of course is not great, but acceptable anyway. What do you expect from a country which is not keen on tourism? People here are rich with oil.

This hotel is extremely average, I was warned (reviews) took a chance there are better hotels in Brunei. I only stayed 1 night, thank goodness.
Breakfast basic.
Room very basic, air conditioning very fickle.
Location good.

Stayed over one night on route to NZ from London, 'BIG MISTAKE' The most disgusting hotel we have stayed in. Two hours late in checking us in. Damp rotting bathroom, dirty carpets and walls. Air freshners everywhere to mask the smell. TV would not work properly. No tea making facilities or jug to boil water as we were not able to drink the water from the tap. No food available as restaurant was closed for renovation. Decided not to turn on A/C as the unit was falling apart and looked like it had never been cleaned. Extremely noisy as we were next to the road. At the make-shift breakfast room, ants crawled all over the breakfast table cloth. Left many hours earlier than planned for airport so we could get something to eat and drink and sit somewhere clean. This hotel should PAY it's guests to stay there!

Booked in on a Monday morning...and booked out 2 hours later! So disappointed from what you see on the web site (we booked through the net). The room was very old, sure it's not a new hotel but a bit of an update wouldn't hurt to spruce things up. It looked like an old apartment altered into a hotel room. We ended up going just up the road to The Terrace and paid less for a better room, with coffe/tea making in room (Jubilee doesn't have that) and a pool (no pool at Jubilee) - Brunei is HOT, so a lot of you would love to cool off during the day!

Single room, A/C, TV and private bathroom. There are not many accommodation options in Bandar Seri Bergawan, you can find a few more hotels and a guesthouse, so regarding price this hotel seems to be the cheapest in the city especially if you want to keep on a budget. Location is perfect, just steps away from the city centre (the capital is really, really small though). Staff is very nice and helpful and you have a shop (some sort of convenience store) downstairs beside the lobby. Room cleaned every day, everything tidy and clean and very quiet, having a comfortable bed. Breakfast included, one day it was a buffet style with coffe/tea and food (sausagues, toasts, beans, egg in different styles, etc) and the next day changed and you had to choose a dish or a combination of the food mentioned above. Free return pickup from and to the airport is included in the price, a very nice touch. Nice hotel. By the way, I recommend you to visit the Padian Food Court (last floor) located in the mall right in the city centre (Jalan McArthur Street) in front of the riverside and ask for a “Roasted Chicken Laksa” in the restaurant in front of the place where you order drinks as it was just delicious and the best I ate in my whole trip around Brunei and Malaysia… soooo tasty that I ended up eating that same dish for 3 days at that place:)

Stayed in a Superior Suite on the 5th floor. Room very large and comfortable. Fittings and bathroom a little dated, but functional and relatively clean.

Hotel only provides soap, shampoo and towels in the bathroom, so if you need anything special other than this, make sure that you take it or you will need to buy from the minimart located near the lobby, or one of the supermarkets/minimarts in the city.

Complementary Brunei newspaper provided in the mid-morning.

Air conditioning in the room was cold and was not able to adjust temperature or fan speed. Assumed that the switch was for central cooling rather than individual room settings.

Breakfast okay...but must select from a set menu (has about 8 cooked breakfast options - all western). No cereal or fruit of you are not a hot breakfast person.
