“Good food in the centre of the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

In the centre of Bandar Seri Begawan are only a few restaurants with local food. Caffe Vito is a good choise if you don't want to eat in a food coart or market.

“Not a constant quality”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2012

We went to Vito twice. The first time the coffee was great and we liked the place to hang out and use the wifi. The second time the coffee wasn't very nice and the wifi was down. The latter was probably just an incident however. If the coffee had been good always, I would definitely recommend the place. Now it's 50-50.

“Great stuff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2012

I chanced across Caffe Vito this evening when wandering around town. It's in an area where there are several other restaurants - either serving pizza or curry - but none of them looked as nice as Caffe Vito. There were several other people eating there, and the atmosphere was very laid-back and friendly.

The menu is long and comprehensive, but it's well organised into eastern and western dishes, and so incredibly inexpensive. I had a green curry with chicken and rice, an excellent dessert, tau fu fa, and a bottle of water. The whole came to 8.50 BND!

I am travelling on my own at the moment, and it was a really nice place to feel comfortable as a loner at a table. Enjoy!

“Don't understand what all the rave is for..”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2012

4 of us ate here. Ok the positive-the ambience is nice-it reminds you of tourist hangouts in Bali-mismatch tables and chairs, lots of stuff on the walls-you get the picture..
But the food..- look I really don't know what all the fuss is about. We had the "signature" (1) penang fried kuey teow- its ok but similar to fried kuey teow anywhere in Brunei, (2) penang prawn mee (har mee)-OMG-it was awful-the soup base tasted raw and not "prawny" at all, (3) penang asam laksa-the soup base was a bit thin - you should see and taste the mashed mackerel (ikan kembong)-and not the occasional strands as was served but the piece de resistance was the BND16 so called roasted lamb shank. My goodness-it was a whole lamb shank, which looked like it had been stewed-it came with a few sorry pieces of boiled carrots and potatoes and then put under the grill. Worse was the soupy "sauce" it was sitting in-they did not even make an effort to thicken it. I'm convinced its lamb stew.
Anyway-I'm sorry if this is going against the grain-but people!-this place is over rated!. I haven't given up hope tho'-I'm going agian-and will try the other asian fare on the menu. Perhaps I missed something but 4 strikes out of 4(?)-will keep you informed..
Btw-if you want to see what real penang food looks like before you go & taste it-just google it-tons of blogs on it. Either Caffe Vito is catering to non asian taste or you people have been too long gone from penang..
