“Maybe not the average 5 star - but it used to be”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

I have stayed in this hotel a few times and although I have stayed in "nicer" hotels, this one is for some reason one of my favourite.

All service at the hotel is very good. The staff is extremely nice and polite.

The gym isn't fantastic but the service is very good, which makes up for the lack of equipment. The breakfast in the executive lounge is very good and the breakfast in the main dining room has a good selection.

I've stayed there a few times between 2007 and 2012. In that time they haven't done much for the hotel.

In spite of many faults of the hotel I am giving it 4 stars as I like staying there.

Room Tip: The hotel as two wings, older and newer. There is a huge difference between the two, the newer being...

it's like walking back in the a 5 star hotel back in the 90's.

Pros:
1. excellent breakfast
2. decent WiFi signal
3. comfortable bed
4. the locals claim this is the safest hotel in town (it's gated 24/7)

Cons:
1. 90's hotel, 80's room!!! (TV is new)
2. The hotel is in a district where foreigners are not recommended to "walk out"... better with TukTuk or private car
3. Awkward Toilet position, it's like as if the architect forgot to add a toilet in the bathroom during the initial design... The toilet is now positioned next to the sink and slightly under the counter, and the flush is underneath and on the other side of the counter and behind the seat cover. Which makes it very difficult to flush

Verdict:
Pan Pacific is very close-by, which is more modern and priced about the same.... I would stay there next time. For those places safety as their top priority, you may want to stay here

There has been a serious drop at the level of services at Ruposhi Bangla which was probably one of the 2 high end hotels in Bangladesh for decades during its time as Sheraton.

The infrastructure is pretty old and staff are quite arrogant as they are serving in a 5 star hotel, they provide 5 star arrogance and not service.

The rooms are moderate in size and one of the top attractions for this hotel is its bar. Its not that exciting but not many hotels do have bar usually in Bangladesh.

Mostly used by foreigners who has work in Motijheel area.

Rooms are about 160 USD and food about BDT 2000 or 30 USD for a buffet. Buffet is quite good at the italian restaurant on the ground floor.

They do have a good auditorium and tennis facilities.

Its got a really nice view compared to the other so called 5 stars in Dhaka from where you can see lush greens of a 400 year old Ramna park, which used to be a Race Course during the British period.

Room Tip: If someone else is paying, you will feel at ease. If your work is near Motijheel, you should use...

Dear valued guest,

Greetings from Ruposhi Bangla Hotel!

We would like to thank you for the comments you have posted on TripAdvisor and appreciate your candid reference concerning our rooms, venues, service and hospitality.

We sincerely apologize on behalf of our colleagues for the drop in service that is not at all expected in a 5 star and will certainly take measures to address our short comings.

Your appreciation of our garden view of famous Ramna Park is noted and is indeed a key selling point for the hotel.

As a valued guest, your comments are important to us and we appreciate the time you have taken to post them. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of further assistance.

I have stayed here multiple times, and felt the same every time right from the first - it si a professionally managed & run hotel, with the warmth of your home. The restaurant 'Bithika' serves very good food, and Bangladeshi delicacies are worth tasting here

Very good hotel, clean and all staff very nice and friendly. Pretty good location. Excellent breakfast. At least it's not a boring Intercontinental or Hilton or any boring characterless hotels like them.
I like places I stay to be old and have something about them.
If I am lucky enough to take another trip to Bangladesh I would stay here before and after trip around the country.

had to move into this hotel from another hotel due to two days of strikes in the city and the conference I was attending was held there. And it was a great decision - no regrets. The hotel is like an oasis in a desert of noise and chaos of Dhaka. the facilities were great; fantastic service, excellent food. one must try the local dishes here especially the mutton!! Great spread at the breakfast. Rooms are huge, clean and well furnished (the bed's Location wise is not too far from the airport and did not get around much in the city during those days. but if you want a great place to stay, this is it!!

Room Tip: take any rooms which do not face the street. Higher floors the better

Staff very kind and helpful. I was here two years ago and they still remembered me and what I was here for!
Food in the three restaurants is excellent. Pool is nice.
Only drawback is location in the city: far from Gulshan, Banani expats and embassies areas where nice international bars, restaurants and shops are (Dhaka is a place where you tend to look for westeners and western like places and you're unlikely to find them). It is close to Old Dhaka however, and to Lous Kahn' architectural masterpiece, the Bangladesh Parliament.
If you need to be in Gulshan often get a hotel there (in daytime it takes from 30 to 60 minutes because of unbelievable traffic), in all other cases this is an excellent choice

We absolutely agree that the traffic congestion in Dhaka is very challenging, but we are hopeful that future infra-structure development plans might resolve the issue.

As a valued guest, your views are important to us and we appreciate the time you have taken to write the comments.

We hope that you have enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to welcoming you on your next visit.
