Some other reviews on this site are a bit tough, though I recognise some of the descriptions! As a consultant I stayed here for many weeks in the first half of 2012 and found it more than adequate. I have now returned and again found that the staff were friendly and seemed to give a genuine welcome to me as an old friend. Food is quite varied, with Asian, Thai and international sections in the menu. There are extra choices on several evenings each week as they do Italian, Mexican and seafood specials, together with a weekly buffet. I have stayed healthy throughout, no small matter in Bangladesh.
I actually found the staff better trained than many in my own 'developed' country.
Gulshan Park (with its depleted lake) situated directly opposite and a mere one minute from the gate, is an important free asset. It offers a safe, convenient place to have some excercise, with a 10 minute circuit on a well paved path which is well lit and supervised. During this year it has undergone a fairly major refurbishment, carried out by the Gulshan Society which manages it. It is a pity that the lake level was lowered; maybe it will be refilled now that the work is nearly finished, but the park provides one of the very few places in Dhaka which is free of danger and hassle.
While Lake Castle is not a top hotel, it offers good value for the price.
Given the power outages that are common in Dhaka, the Hotel coped well and the internet, with free wifi in every room (lots of London hotels don't offer that) that was reliable and reasonably fast.
