“Worst 5 star ever”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2014

It was a business trip and I had 2 nights stay and that was awful experience. The staff could not speak English at all. Restaurant and stairs were too dark. Minibar was empty not even a bottle of water. A door card didn't work and I had to ask someone to open the door by key. Breakfast was very simple with no service. Rooms were clean and big ...but I can't believe five star hotel room does not have window!!!!! Air condition didn't work well.....one room was freezing and the other room was hot! Worst of all imagine that you are sleep and someone of hotel staff open the door and just walk in to your room at midnight!!!!!
What kind of 5 star hotels could be like this?!

only stayed in this hotel because it was recommended by my Azerbaijan travel agent. having a rating of 5-stars is a joke. the reception staff are not rude nor warm either. unfortunately when I stayed there a lot of americans were there also. and they got priority over myself and my daughter, i.e. "hi i'm checking out", 'did you use the minibar?', "no", 'wait 1 minute (calls someone)', after 10 minutes gets a call and 'ok you can go'.... American checking out -"I'm checking out", 'did you use the minibar?', "no", 'ok thank you'.... he was done in 5 seconds... saw it multiple times. I HATE IT... racial discrimination.
I called reception to ask for a power adaptor, she said no and hung up... wth...
the bathroom stinks all the time.
the internet connection is free but you will pull your hair out because it keeps dropping out and is sooooo slow. impossible to do any work.
breakfast is a joke nothing but cold cuts, boiled eggs, cereal and instant coffee. holes on the beddings, something you don't normally find in a 5-star hotel and not even a 3-star one... no coffee in the room. any other 3-star hotel has coffee.
don't bother to call for room service... I called and was told my order will be brought up in 5 mins. 45 mins later and still nothing... stuff that. we went out to look for a restaurant instead. walked around for 30 mins and didn't find anything so no choice but the hotel resto...
definitely will not recommend it. I will not stay there next time i'm in baku

Room Tip: find another hotel. this one is not worth it

I have stayed here many times on business and overall this hotel is a good, decently priced business hotel. The rooms are simply decorated and overall the beds are very comfortable. The rooms are cleaned promptly and fresh supplies are brought in daily.

The temperature in the rooms is either too hot or too cold however and you must ask the front desk for help. The room keycard situation is a nightmare however. If you have 2 guests in the room, one key resets the other. Also the housekeeping master key will reset all the keys, so you are constantly having to go down to the front desk to have them fixed. They front desk does this no problem, but it is still frustrating. The front desk also speaks decent English and is always friendly.

The dinning room is decently decorated, although at several of the breakfast buffets you must ask for more plates, juice, coffee, cups, spoons. They run out of everything and do not bother to restock unless you ask and then wait. Several days in a row they were out of coffee, apologetically, with a market right next door but no efforts to go get more.

The gym/pool/sauna is a separate issue. Despite being there on business, the gym attendants insist that the gym is a charged fee and it is always different but varies anywhere from 15-50azn for use! This is outrageous. They also don't peak English or Azeri, only Russian so be prepared. As a "5 star" hotel, this amenity should absolutely be available to guests.

It's location is inconvenient to downtown Baku, unless you are very familiar. It is difficult to find. It is also not in a very pretty part of the city.

I have made several bookings to the hotel being based on the comments about this hotel. I have sent several letters about the booking contest and nothing received back. So there were lot of problems before I got my ocnfirmation letter, But again correct it and send bak to the reservation office.
I did not stay there, but got ht enice hotel close to the Ambassador hotel. And one in the evening during my visit in Baku I planned to have the dinner in the Ambassador.
The service I met there does not meet the name of the hotel. The staff is not trained enough, waiter did not know the menu, did not speak in English and the menu content was close to the fast food menu, since the hotel had five golden stars outside.
After the "amazing" dinner we asked staff to show the rooms. The bellman spoke to us on the body language, showing one room after another... The rooms are old enough, with some light renovation. But in total if I was the guest I would prefer this hotel in one case, if the all hotels in the city are fully booked.
Thisnk before going there.

The only positive aspect of this hotel is its nice, smiling staff. Unfortunately most are junior, without training, with poor command of English. Hence poor management, added to an outdated architecture with unmaintained equipement, ugly decoration, and substandard service (out of a 11-night stay my suite was not made twice). One member of our group was waken up in the night by the freezing air conditioner impossible to turn off. Another one ordered tuna salad from room service and got only salad without tuna... A third one was attacked by bugs or fleas. Another one (VIP) was given a room without windows. Supposedly non-smoking rooms stink tobacco. Limited choice of TV channels from TV sets hard to turn on or off. Breakfast with poor selection, impossible coffee. In sum, one wonders how much they bribed the authorities to get their five stars.

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel!

My first time to Baku and I stayed here, very fast WiFi and a nice room. Although I stayed here a few years ago now, I can remember each detail.

Decent breakfast spread and there was a lovely restaurant 30m down the street.

the Hotel is quite nice for business travel, not so far from the city center. Rooms are spacious and the furniture is old fashioned but in mint conditions. At the Reception i have found really helpfull personnel who helped me with taxi drivers negotiating lower fares. Breakfast is well serviced and with wide choice. The restaurant/ bar in the lobby is really big and the food is good. Reasonable prices for the restaurant with local/international cuisine.
