“Beautiful site, yet still under repairs”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

Beautiful architecture, mosque, mausoleum and Turkish baths discovered amongst one of the more recent reconstructions. All built in pale Baku stone, very picturesque and interesting. It's therefore a real pity the interiors aren't more decorated and made to a more of an exhibit. Temporary exhibition hall was also closed by the time of our visit. Still, real worth seeing.

“Worth to visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

Visiting the palace of the Shirvanshahs is a must. It is recommended to book an English speaking guide who provides you with all the background information needed to understand the importance of the building and the surroundings. My family enjoyed it and it completed our Old City tour.

“The heart of old Baku”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

This palace, built in the 15th century, is a great example of Azerbaijani architecture. Within the walled city, it features a courtyard, monuments, a mausoleum, a mosque and minaret. There is also a small museum inside displaying period furniture, clothing, rugs, etc. There is a nominal fee to enter, but it's worth it. A visit would take an hour at the most.

“An interesting building but....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

.....not a lot to see. Very few exhibits, lots of empty rooms, and fairly well restored. It is definitely NOT worth paying for even at the modest prices. I have no objection to paying entrance fees to a museum, but you expect to be able see and experience something vaguely memorable. Most of it is closed to the public. There is virtually zero information on the building or the few ceramics on show.

What is the point in charging AZN 2, for being able to take photographs of stones?? I could understand it if there was fine art on display. There isn't!

A great disappointment and a waste of a trip..
