“Right on the Caspian Sea”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2012

I stayed here over New Year's Eve. It was right on the Caspian Sea, I would love to go back when the weather is warmer!

The upper level and sea side of the building hadn't been completed when I was there, but no sign of construction made my stay any less pleasant. My room received a lot of light and had fairly high ceilings, which always makes me more comfortable as it gives a feeling of spaciousness.

The food at the restaurant is delicious and the view of the sea just outside is unbeatable.

A beautiful outdoor pool was just outside my room, and an indoor pool (I went swimming one evening--so refreshing!) was close by at the wonderful spa which also has an excellent gym, boxing ring, and dry or steam saunas.

The staff was friendly, competent, and spoke excellent English. They are also great at negotiating rides with the local taxi drivers for the inevitable rides to and from the city. One thing to remember is this hotel is 20 minutes to 1 1/2 hours (depends on traffic) outside Baku in an area called Nalderan. If you have to come back to the hotel from Baku on your own, either get a taxi with a meter (hard to come by) or bring a notepad and pen so you can haggle on paper with the taxi drivers (really fun to do actually). Most drivers only speak Azerbaijani, but they understand Turkish or Russian.

I definitely recommend this hotel in the summer, but maybe not for a business trip where proximity to the city center is crucial.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2011

I took an office group out of season here. Once you get past all the rubble, the hotel itself is lovely, set on the beach and looking out to sea. Sadly they gave me a room with a view of the car park. Minimalist and high quality furnishings (the curtain so minimalist it didn't quite cover the window!) gives a lovely airy and calm feel. Food was really good and varied. Service was - well - it's the are that Azerbaijan has to work on most. Most staff tried, at least, and a couple of people spoke English. All in all, it was a lovely break from Baku (which is about 45 minutes away - airport is close), but still not everything works (even hot water was a bit patchy for me - others said it was fine). I will take the family back in summer.

Room Tip: Clearly a sea view makes the stay much more rewarding!
