2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2007

We stayed here for two days in September 2007 during a small group tour of Armenia. Two days was enough! However, it is encouraging to find a hotel that is trying to encourage visitors to a country (Nagorno Karabakh) that is still recovering from a war (1991 to 1993) and that is as yet not officially recognised by any country other than its neighbour, Armenia.
The hotel has its own website with glowing descriptions that don't match up to reality. It mentions a buffet breakfast. That doesn't exist. Tables are set with four places. The food is already on the tables - four of everything. My husband made the heinous mistake of eating two small pancakes! That meant that if another couple came later to that table, there would only have been one pancake left.
We arrived quite late and the hotel had arranged a cold supper for us, that was quite inedible. We all went to bed hungry.
Our room was quite large, with a strange mixture of furniture. The air-conditioner wasn't working, but we managed to get our room changed, which was good. In both the rooms the lights over the bathroom mirror didn't work.
The owner of the hotel introduced himself to us. He lives in Sydney and pays visits to the hotel. It might be better if he spent more time there, checking on the rooms and the food. The staff probably have little experience of western hotels.
That said - good luck to them. I'm sure things will improve.

  • Liked — They changed our room to one where the air-conditioner worked.
  • Disliked — The food.

The hotel is brand new, with air conditionining and a hot water system in each room. The staff were very helpful in every regard & were able to change our rooms at short notice.

Wonderful views & great service at a reasonable price (approx usd15 pp per night)
