The location of this hotel is so good it's scandalous: a monumental
building on the center square across from the National Gallery.
The hotel's outdoor cafe is right on the square, giving the impression
that it is the official cafe of the Armenian nation. Inside, it's a typical Marriott--
very professional service, huge rooms (mine was a standard, but
was the size of a suite) with many amenities. The hotel seems
to cater more to business people than tourists; at least, most of
the people I met were such, and I have a hard time imagining
a tourist wanting to spend the middle of the day in a spinning class
(an advertised feature of the hotel's fitness center).
The concierge service was patient and pretty knowledgable, but seemed heavily
biased towards the most expensive options in all matters.
If you stay here I would recommend using the tourist information bureau a
few blocks away for a wider perspective on both Yerevan and Aremenian
tourism.
The rate during my stay were quite reasonable (around 90 euro), although this
did not include any extras (e.g. breakfast). The hotel has a tendency to
overcharge for anything additional, the daily rate for internet use being an
extreme example.
