“Some improvement needed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2008

We booked the Sea-View Suite. It was on the ground floor, facing towards the beach, however, the only thing visible was the car park. The suite was very big - living room area and bedroom area and it had a small balcony facing the car park. The beds and wardrobe were reasonably new but the living room area looked a bit outdated. The air conditioning was working well and kept the mosquitos under control. We would have loved a mosquito net though. The cleaning staff was very friendly but some of the reception staff was very reserved. There are a lot of Asian tourists staying in Hai Yen and the breakfast caters to them and is great if you love Asian food. Omlette, sausage, bread with jam and fruit is available for the Western taste. The beach is right across the road and the main restaurant/ cafe area is about 10 minutes walk from the hotel

The only positive thing about this hotel is the spacious room. Everything else was terrible. The service was not good, there were mosquitoes in the bathroom, and the bathroom toilet was leaking water. I would not recommend staying at this hotel.

  • Liked — The location is in front of the beach.
  • Disliked — The hotel room was horrible.

The Lobby smells like smoke. We stayed in the beach front rooms. Rooms are so small you can't barely fit 2 people with luggage. Outdated, but not what I would call dirty. The air conditioner didn't work properly. There was 4-5 inch gaps under the doors and that left plenty of room for bugs and mosquitoes to come in. The bathroom was really small and smelled like there were sewer problems. The toilet was broken and had to be fixed twice within a week.
The staff is pretty nice, but don't speak fluent English. The location is directly across from the beach, but a little dark and scary at night.
I wouldn't go there again.

The Hai Yen is a reasonable place to rest your head while you enjoy the surrounds of Nha Trang. The location is good, right on the beach and a short stroll to the main area of Nha Trang where there are lots of great restaurants.

We spent about US$30 per night for three people, and for what we got I thought it was a bit overpriced. The rate included breakfast, which was not very good and we mostly just ate bread and jam! The room itself was clean and a reasonable size. The shower did not have very good water pressure. Most rooms have an excellent view of the beach.

Staff were generally helpful, but didn't speak the greatest English. There was a helpful tourist office inside if you wanted info on the area or to book a tour.

All in all the Hai Yen was pretty forgettable.

  • Liked — Location is great, rooms were clean
  • Disliked — Rooms a bit outdated, atmosphere of hotel is a bit tired, breakfast not the best

This is an average hotel at best and does not represent good value for money. Whilst it does have a good location, the rooms were barely adequate and the service was poor. What’s more, I came out of my bathroom having had a shower to find a male member of staff standing in the bedroom, having let himself in with the master key. I still have no idea what he was doing there.

The Hai Yen has a great location, a nice pool and great views over the sea, but the rooms themselves are a little tired and the bathrooms uninviting. The buffet breakfast doesn't have much to offer for western tastes.

Stayed here three days over Thanksgiving as part of a tour out of Saigon. It is a 3-star hotel across the street from the beach. The main building faces the beach but we were offered the newer building with updated rooms, which we took. The newer building fronts a side street and does not face the beach although it is also across the street. We were on the second floor. Room is somewhat spartan but does have A/C and a TV, mini-fridge, desk, armoire and two double beds. The front door is a little rickety. The good size bathroom includes a flush toilet, tub with shower and a sink. Electric wall mounted water heater installed in bathroom. Service people gave us extra towels upon request. Not a fancy place, boring architecture, but adequate. A buffet-style Breakfast was included in tour. Close to nearby mineral spa. Try the mud baths! $60,000 VND for a 45 (or maybe 60?) minute mud massage. Valuables can be left at the front desk.
