Owner description: We offer a Half day cooking classes for visitors to Nha Trang at a cost of $24 USD per person. It is a great experience and a must do for someone looking for variety to their trip to Nha Trang and something a little different. It involves travelling to the local market in a cyclo, a guided tour of the marketplace, where people get involved in learning about the local food and buying the ingredients for your meals. You then return to the restaurant where you prepare 3 dishes as chosen by the guests and of course enjoy eating what you have prepared.

“Excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

I really enjoyed doing this cooking class at Lanterns. As a solo traveller it's is sometime hard to get booked into things but they arranged an extra cooking class for me and someone else to do whilst we were there. There is a trip to the market to buy local ingredients in a rickshaw and the chef explains all the information on how to choose the best ingredients. It is a 3 course meal which you eat after you have cooked it. So come hungry! She also offered us to try a duck foetus when we asked what one of the eggs were but we declined!

“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012 via mobile

Nam, our teacher, was just fantastic. She is super funny and very keen to show you as much as she can about Vietnamese cooking. The food we made was absolutely delicious and will be easy to replicate when I get home. The goodie bag containing a recipe booklet, coconut cooking spoon and Vietnamese vegetable shredder was such a bonus to receive.

“Great fun morning.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012 via mobile

First class fun morning out with lovely edible results at the end. Nam is lovely and had a very good command of English so communication is both easy and informative. Market trip by tricycle was first and we bought everything we needed whilst being educated about many herbs and vegetables we did not always recognise. Meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, rice and every conceivable extra available all in one place. This does include frogs, snakes, snails, eels and lots of live animals to boot, so be aware! Return trip and straight to the cooking. Most things were pre prepped for us but it was still our job to assemble, cook and enjoy three courses. Spring rolls with pork and prawn are fairly straightforward as long as you don't tear the rice paper. Clay Pot, chicken, pork, mackerel (or most anything you wish) follows next and it's a simple dish but surprisingly good, throw it all in to marinate then cook for 20-30 minutes, delicious. To end Flambé fruit of your choice which is just so much fun setting fire to the table (lol). Worth every penny, just a little early to eat SO MUCH food. Give my regards to Nam, she's a Gem.

“Great experience, good fun.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012 via mobile

Went on this 04 Dec, Nam was our Chef. The trip round the market was very interesting and quite an experience. We could choose what produce we later cooked. The cyclo ride to and from the market was also fun, having avoided their advances all week. Nam took us through the cooking at a pace that suited all students, with a good sense of humour, and some patience. The dishes we cooked were very tasty, and we look forward to trying them at home. Highly recommended, thanks to Nam and the staff.
