“Great beach, great relaxing holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

We do not understand some of the other negative reviews here. We are a group of 8 kiwis who stayed at Hanoi, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh, and here at Nha Trang, and we all agree that Diamond Bay was the best hotel we stayed at. We were welcomed at the beautiful hotel lobby with cold drinks, and within 10 minutes he had room keys, breakfast vouchers etc, and golf buggys to take us and our bags to our rooms. We stayed in Superior Garden View Rooms, and these were great. Not much of a view ( only tree -tops ), but they were a good size, with balcony, good comfortable beds, good shower, safe, mini bar with surprisingly cheap drinks and snacks, free bottled water. Room service was good, everytime we returned from the pool or beach the rooms were spotless. Yes there are a lot of Russians at this resort, but they were all friendly, courteous and most had a good sense of humour. We didn't bother with the free shuttles to town, since taxis were cheap and plentiful right at the lobby. So we could get to town for less than NZ$5.00 each at times that suited us.The pool was great, heaps of loungers / umbrellas and plenty of room, my only complaint was that it had a bit too much chlorine, which stung our eyes. To avoid this, we spent most days at the great beach right alongside the pool and restaurants. The beach setting is beautiful, in a gorgeous tree-lined bay with heaps of loungers and umbrellas under the trees. Free kayaks are provided, and the water was warm - no waves. It is only in the late afternoons when the tide is out that the water gets too shallow for swimming, but then you can always return to the pool, of catch a ride to the next resort along the beach. The breakfast buffet was very good, huge selection of fruit, cereals, toast breads, spreads, fruit juices, eggs any style, pancakes, yoghurts, noodle dishes, bacon etc etc. The evening meals at the restaurants were a little expensive. We stayed for "Hawaian Night" one evening, but this was a little disappointing, since only approx 20 - 30 guests stayed for this. The Fire Dancers were brilliant, but it seems that most guests have figured out that meals are cheaper in Nha Trang Central. Sure prices are cheaper in town, but prices at Diamond bay are still reasonable eg Cocktails VND81,000, San Miguel Beer VND36,000, Pork Ribs Meal VND250,000, Oven Roasted Chicken VND150,000, Beef Burger with Fries VND240,000. We found the service good, and the staff all helpful and friendly. But the best thing about this resort is the pool and beach - so peaceful and quiet, it is great to get away from the crazy traffic, the thousands of scooters all tooting frantically - i would rather stay at the beautiful peaceful Diamond Bay anytime - it feels like you are staying on your own little island miles away from anywhere. And all of the crazy traffic, shops, cafes etc are only a 5 minute taxi ride away - best of both worlds ! Highly recommended and would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here for 3 nights. We arrived at 12.30pm and were told we had to wait till 2pm for our room as they had let the previous guests stay longer. The pool is great, it is large and plenty of sun loungers. The man made beach is pleasant and there are kayaks for free use. As others have said the restaurants and bars when open are very expensive. We used the free shuttle a couple of times but it was like a scrum trying to get on it as all the Russian guests barged they way on, shoving past you without a thought. Breakfast was a buffet with plenty of variety. The signs around the hotel were in Vietnamese and Russian and the tour desk had tours in Russian. All that is fine if you only want Russians but the hotel is marketed at any one. The room was a good size, clean with a balcony. The free fruit was a bowl of limes which we never ate! The worst thing that happened was the hotel forgot to give us our early morning wake up call and we nearly missed our flight. This was also hindered by a slow check out and having to wait for our passports to be given back. The resort is about 15mins from the centre and we used taxi s to avoid the scrum on our last day.

I visited this resort in last summer.
The resort is so far from downtown. but people can use suttle bus with free charge.
Hyge pool is so impressible. Private beach was good..
Body massage was good but facilities are little disappoint..
But the restaurant near the pool is not good and expensive.
Need to be improved.

Room Tip: Rooms near the pool is little loud at night.

Potential positives first;
- golf facilities look good and include driving range hitting into the bay which you pay extra for
- lots of restaurants if they're ever all open
- big pool with a lot of loungers
- regular-ish shuttle buses to Nha trang to escape

Now the negatives unfortunately;
- Vietnam have a huge number of hotels and our experience in this one was absolutely nothing like any of the other 4 hotels that we stayed in so the following are reflections on the hotel itself and also a comparison with the other Vietnamese hotels
- on arrival you revive the customary vietnamese refreshment while checking in - all good so far - however once you have checked in you are rushed off to the buggy for the room before even given the chance to drink or eat- completely opposite to everywhere else we stayed where everything was at your own pace
- the room and furniture was dark, damp, extremely dated/in need of a complete overhaul
- all clothing was made to smell of the damp room
- the vast choice of restaurants were largely shut and were well overpriced
- the regular shuttle bus is a complete free-for-all - expect elbows and shouting from the overwhelmingly Russian guests
- after trying to book am airport transfer twice they didn't manage to book it at all
- 2 golf buggies drove past us while we were hauling our heavy bags back to reception to check out - quite a walk I might add
- there was extremely loud music on the beach on sat night lasting a long time into the night
- the day trips were well overpriced compared to the alternatives in town
- the resort is so large that staff appear rushed to get you out the way rather than actually provide any level of customer service
- it is customary to have fruit in your room in Vietnam to eat - it was interesting to be greeted with a bowl of limes!

We did not visit the spa so cannot comment on that.

The place is so so overpriced compared to every other place we stayed which were usually quite a bit cheaper and so much nicer. One of the other reviewers mentioned the miss universe 2008 pageant which was definitely a recurring theme in the hotel.

We endured the place, not enjoyed. It was a relief to check out and eventually get to the airport. We would not recommend it to anyone and are surprised to see relatively good reviews from others- maybe we just had a particularly bad room!

Room Tip: Our room was a 'superior double with garden view'

In the middle of nowhere is a big downside and the resort exploits that for profit.
Initial impressions are fantastic. The entry and lobby gardens are really impressive.
The pool is huge but poorly designed and just plastic lining-very basic.
Receptionists and staff in general do not speak good English which is poor for a four star resort.
Villas are ho hum and a touch boring. The bathrooms are huge and one wonders if part of the space would have been better used as living area.
Villas have the names of past Miss universe contestants. Apparently many years ago the resort had some Miss Universe contestants but very very wisely the organisers never repeated the exercise.Smart people.
The resort seems to live in the past on its laurels of that event and is out of touch with the present reality of providing hospitality to current guests.
Management appears to be shocking and that filters through to staff.
It's a huge problem being trapped out in the bush as you are entirely at the mercy of resort transport and vulterous taxi drivers.

Room Tip: Choose a room in another resort close to town.

When we arrived here it definitely had the wow factor as the resort/beach/pool is beautiful, plenty of luxorious sun loungers around the pool and private beach. A few good restaurants (o mai Vietnamese was particularly good) and the breakfast buffet was excellent. However the timing of the shuttle bus did not make it easy to go into the town (which wasn't that brilliant anyway) and the fact that you had to stay mainly in the resort was reflected in the restaurant and drink prices compared to others in Vietnam. However we had a really good 5 day stay, had good service and would recommend it.

The room was amazing and because they were full we were upgraded. The service at check in was amazing. I was a bit disappointed with the bike rental. I didn't think they'd charge and we were told to take two and drop them back when we were done, there was no mention of a fee so I was surprised with a bill when we dropped them back! The water at the beaches were not nice but the beach at the resort was lovely and clean. The buffet was nice. It's a nice place for a night or two but you'd be bored after that.
