We arrived in Hue without a hotel reservation and were met at the railway station by several persistent hotel and guest house hawkers. Having managed to evade the worst of the them, a polite and well dressed man approached us at the station car park exit and gave us a card for this hotel with a promise of a free taxi to the hotel just to look at the room to start with. There were two guys at the station for this hotel, but the second guy was much friendlier and less pushy, plus he offered a better deal (with the free taxi (we were quoted $2 to the town centre from the railway station) and we negotiated breakfast to be included in the $10 price for a double room, neither of which the first guy offered).
We were suitably impressed with the cleanliness / furnishing of the room (#202) and facilities to take it. It had a double bed (and a single bed) which were very comfortable and nice and firm. We had a good air-con unit. The en suite had a bathtub, but unfortunately no plug so no bath, and a separate boiler which provided scorchingly hot water for the shower and sink. It had cable TV with sports channels, HBO, AXN, BBC News etc, plus there was a strong WiFi signal (strong enough to video call on Skype with no problems). All in all a quality room for $10!
The hotel is well located for access to the Citadel (10mins walk) and the railway station (30mins walk).
We were delighted to have negotiated breakfast into our deal. We were allowed one food item and one drink item from the menu. The banana and chocolate pancake was big enough and tasty. But the omlette was better, coming with one of either mushrooms, tomatoes or cheese and served with a baguette (see picture uploaded). There were a few other options like noodle based dishes, fruit plate etc, but we never tried these. Various teas and coffees were available.
The staff were friendly, although as with other places in Vietnam, be prepared for some hard upselling of train tickets, bike tours etc. Their English was really good which made communication very easy. The restaurant across the road (literally about 5 metres) is a good solid, well priced and tasty option for lunch or dinner.
We were very happy with our stay here and would stay again should be ever return to Hue.
