“THE place to stay in Hue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

Very grand entrance which doesn't dissappoint once inside.
Lovely room overlooking the pool & the river.
Stylish & slick service which really feels like you could be back in the 1930's!
Super Spa & amazing breakfast with so much choice - first place in Vietnam to offer Marmite!
The retaurant looked great, but didn't eat there as it was pricey.
Glorious pool area with bar which we seemed to have to ourselves.
Would definitely recommend for a stop in Hue, conveniently located to explore the historic sights.

There is no doubting that this is a good hotel, but our personal experience was that it lacked atmosphere and any homely feel. It's Art Deco design and although elegant and stylish in its own way was devoid of softness, no carpets just ceramic or wooden floor tiles. The result is that you hear every footstep along the corridor and there is little to absorb the sound. No carpet to soften the feel in the bedrooms either. On a positive note the rooms are well appointed, we had a river view, beds comfortable and many of the things you want in your bedroom. One suggestion however would be to put something more than just Jasmine tea in the complimentary beverage selection - its not everyone's cup of tea! Green, Black or breakfast tea would be great
Swimming pool is outdoor, January it was cold! The gym is pretty well equipped though. Breakfast starts at 6am allowing time to grab a bite to eat and still get to the airport for the 8am flight to Saigon. It's also a great selection too. Snacks a little pricey if you stay in.
In summary a good hotel and no major issues but felt it lacked the more comfortable feel we personlly like.

Room Tip: Make sure you are on the top floor with a river view, from there you cn see the citadel across the r...

Dear “alfie B”,
First of all, we the family here at La Residence Hotel & Spa regret to hear that you have experienced a less than an “ultimate” time here with us. We all strive to offer and extend the best we can in guest services and also in luxurious accommodations. At the same time we realize that our design and architectural work here is unique and descends from the period of times past of Vietnam. But, we appreciate to hear from you via your comments that we need to make some improvements in certain areas of our business. Yes, the design that is in place in our corridors does not offer the best in quiet and relaxation. We acknowledge this and we are taking steps to see where we can improve in this area. At the same time we have taken the steps to change and upgrade our tea selection in the rooms. Again, thank you for your comments in this area. We understand and take on the responsibility that at times we are not able to fully satisfy the desires and requests of our guests. But our intention is to never stop trying to improve and we believe that in this way we can maintain and move forward as a first rate five star hotel.
I hope that we can be of service to you, your family, and friends if you plan again to visit our city and to experience what the ancient capital of Hue City has to offer.
Warmest Regards,

An elegant oasis in what was originally the French Governor's Colonial Residence. Our room so typically French and well appointed with good toileteries, lovely big white fluffy towels and a comfortable bed. It was also useful to have foreign exchange facilities available.
The hotel is set in nice gardens near the Perfume River and has a lovely pool area.
We did appreciate free internet access and friendly, helpful staff.
We ate on the terrace on our first night at the hotel and while we only ordered simple food from the bar, it was delicious. The following morning there was a fabulous spread in La Perfum restaurant. Not a good place to stay if you are on a diet.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the river - ours overlooked the entrance and carpark.

Dear “Schlepper 1939”,
As you have commented on your recent visit and stay with us here at La Residence Hotel & Spa in Hue City, our “elegant oasis” does offer the best in subtle but charming accommodations going hand and hand with our superb and sincere hospitable service from each and everyone of our service staff. Yes, we are fortunate and take advantage of our vantage point alongside the Perfume River with easy access to the ancient capital and the Imperial City, the last home of the Nguyen Dynasty. As you have said our hotel and grounds the French Governors Colonial Residence and it is a natural fit for all of the fantastic and cultural beauties of tombs and pagodas that Hue City has to offer.
Thank you and we sincerely appreciate that you have taken the time from your busy schedule to let us know how we are doing.

On arrival I was immediately made to feel welcome and the attention so complete one would have thought I was the only person in the complex. The residence is sublime in its restoration of art deco and my room on the second floor overlooked the Perfume river and the superb swimming pool and gardens. It was comfortable, quiet and extremely clean. I had a meal cooked for me (I am a chef) exclusively by the Executive Chef which was nothing short of amazing...genuine cuisine with heart and soul. I was ill my second night and felt like I was surrounded by family, the attention and care of my well being was second to none. I am going back, it was all I had imagined and more. Thank you guys for an amazing part of my glorious stay in Vietnam.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the upper levels away from main reception.

“A memorable moment”. That is what our family here at La Residence Hotel & Spa strive for. The complete package from luxurious accommodations to the ultimate in hospitality. This is what Hue City is all about and we are extremely delighted and proud that we were able to pass that charming tradition on to you and your family.

And yes, we are lucky to be situated in such a beautiful and scenic place surrounded by so much history from the Perfume River to the Imperial City of the Nguyen Dynasty.
Once again, thank you for your lavish and sincere recognition of La Residence Hotel & Spa. Beautiful hotel. Well appointed rooms. Quiet, overlooking the Perfume River. Breakfast buffet provided outstanding selection of foods to fit any palate. We had dinner on the terrace both nights - delicious! Wished we could have stayed longer so we could have enjoyed some of the facility's many ameneties.

Room Tip: Request riverfront rooms for absolute quiet.

We stayed at the property in late December 2012 during a bike trip through Vietnam. We truly enjoyed our stay. the rooms were very comfortable and wonderfully decorated. The pool and spa were perfect.....particularly after a long day of biking. The property is in close proximity to historic sites and the city center.

Firstly, let us say thank you. Thank you for taking the time from your schedule to comment on your recent stay with us here at La Residence Hotel & Spa. 3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

We spent two nights at La Residence as part of our two week tour in Vietnam. The hotel is lovely itself, but didn't translate into complete comfort for us while we were there. The two rooms we were given were on the 2nd floor of the older part of the hotel and faced the front entrance. The rooms themselves were a good size, no complaint there. However, the noise factor was huge. The floors out in the hallway are not carpeted so sound travels extremely well. This also seems to be the area where they room all the late check in's. As a result, I hardly slept at all the first night there (between doors slamming in the hallway, people being stupid and conversing loudly at 1 am as if it were 1 pm and then people arising early and repeating the process again starting at 6 am). I'm not sure how to remedy this, and no, ear plugs didn't make a difference. The other issue we had was the room temperature. Although we had set the thermostat for 68 degrees farenheit/20 degrees Celsius, we all woke up sweating throughout the night (we had two rooms and the issue was in both rooms). They were able to fix this for us the next day (heat was on b/c this is their winter and A/C was "off"??) and although the noise was still an issue, the room temperature wasn't. We had dinner at the hotel the first night and breakfast both mornings. A buffet was offered each morning for breakfast and at dinner as well. We just did the buffet b/c everything looked so yummy. The food was very good, albeit a little on the expensive side. Breakfast buffet was extensive, but how much can you eat at breakfast? At least for our family, it's not very much and my husband tells me it was around $80 for the four of us (our kids were with us) each morning. The staff were tremendous, working hard to make you feel welcomed and dealing with my complaining about the heat in the room and the noise. I'd stay here again (we loved Hue), but would definitely only do so if we had rooms that were in a quieter part of the hotel (assuming a quieter part exists).

Dear “Arlinevg”,
The entire team at La Residence Hotel & Spa thank you very much for chosen to stay with us during your last visit to Hue and appreciate for spending your time to post your value comments on Trip Advisor. We all regret the unfortunate circumstances that took place during your stay with us. As you have stated, our entire team are very compassionate with our guests wishes and desires and try our best to make each and every one of our guests feel at home. Unfortunately, there are certain realities that we are faced with such as the noise level in the corridors. We apologize for all the inconvenience you and your family have experienced, and the matter of sound proofing had been recorded for our action plan. The temperature of the rooms is a special case for us too. The temperature in Hue is considered changeable during this time of the year and we had to change the AC system to “heat” mode quite often and sometimes it makes the room too warm to some of our customers. Therefore, yes, you and your family faced certain unpleasant times with respect to the temperature in the rooms and we hope that our team responded promptly to your distress. At the same time, we are pleased that you have noticed the outstanding of our team members and will give us a chance to serve you again when you come back to Hue.
Hope to see you, your family, and friends with our family here at La Residence Hotel & Spa very soon.
Warmest Regards,
