“Impressive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2014

Impressive tomb in countryside setting. A number of drinks stalls inside the grounds which were appreciated in the intense heat.

“Ticket booth workers steal money”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2014

I thought I was maybe being judgemental when they shorted me by 100,000 VND at the ticket booth when giving me change for the 500,000 VND note, before I asked for the missing money. But it turns out every other tourist I spoke to in there had that happen to them.

The exhibit was average, which is to say great if you haven't been to any tombs, and less so if you've seen two or more in the past.

“Lovely grounds & lakeside pavilion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

4km south of Hue, this is one of best Royal Tombs to visit. It is set in wonderfully landscaped gardens with a huge lake. There's a very picturesque little pavilion with verandah over the lake - called Xung Khiem Pavilion. The main royal buildings have yellow tiled roofs signifying royalty, .

“Journey Into The Imperial Past”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2014

A wonderful example of imperial architecture from Vietnams past.
We visited in Sept and it was very hot.
Take water with you as not many places to purchase once inside the grounds.
The buildings are gradually being restored to their former glory in a joint viet/German effort, but it appears it will be many years before it will be completed.
The buildings are by no means falling down, however they do look run down and in need of restoration, but that just adds to the authentic feel to the place.
We were able to dress up in the Emperors clothes for photos (for a small fee) and that added to the fun.
Would definately recommend visiting - it is much more intimate than the citadel, but remember the water. So hot walking on the paving stones in the sun.

“Better than expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2014

This place is big enough to absorb a few coach loads of tour groups and not feel too crowded. We rented bicycles which was a great way to get there and see a bit of the local area. There are signs in English giving a little bit of information but we would recommend a bit of prior research which we did but the guides we came across seemed fairly informative. We took our own food and water with us which turned out to be a good thing as everything in the place was really expensive.
