We stayed at the Saigon Morin in Hue and were told where to find a concentration of restaurants a short walk away. Having had very good food everywhere in Vietnam to that point we were extremely disappointed with the choice of touristy, unattractive - almost fast food venues. We had an awful meal in one. Our perceptions were transformed the next day when our guide took us for a set lunch at Les Jardins near the old Imperial Citadel. A beautifully decorated and characterful French maison. The food was outstanding - every course innovative, with lovely flavours and presentation. Above all, the service was superb with the usual Vietnamese smiles & grace supplemented by efficiency. We were so impressed, we went back again that same evening. It's well worth the small effort and a $5 taxi ride across the river. We opted for Vietnamese food and were again delighted with the quality and variety. The waitress from lunch recognised us after we had sat down inside the restaurant. She came across and asked us if we would rather be sat outside as we were inside at lunchtime. A small but nice touch which epitomised the service and experience. Definitely worth at least one visit!
