Concealed behind its gaudy Carlsberg hoarding lies the Golden Sun. It's vague menu descriptions, widespread across the majority of the country, leave you hoping for something out of the ordinary, a flavour we were yet to experience after two weeks in Vietnam. Perhaps you mind wanders away from the local specialities and strays into the western section of the menu, flitting between an Aussie burger or fish in white wine, with spaghetti or French fries?
However the Golden Sun dispels this indecision, with 'morning glory with garlic' singing with toasted sesame seeds and fresh chilli. The 'grilled pork with noodles' cleansing the palette rather than cloying the taste buds with fresh coriander and mint, crunchy peanuts and a reserved satay sauce.
The service was impeccable, when asking the waiter for the best restaurant for soft shell crab, half expecting him to suggest his own. He proceeded to draw a detailed map to his favourite stall for seafood on the other side of the river. A veritable gem, beyond the throb of the market.
In all the Golden Sun exceeded expectations, though lacked the ambience and eating experience we have come to expect from this country. However if on the strip, highly recommended.
